BIG BANG EARLY BIRD TICKETS

Posted by volkszone

Kicking off the VW Show season with a Big Bang!

The Big Bang Camper & Bus Show is the first VW Festival of the year and a firm favourite on the VW show calendar. With its family friendly vibe and activities, there’s something to keep everyone entertained including the kids.

You can expect VWs of all shapes and sizes with show cars, race cars, custom built campers and more. The VAG only RWYB enables anyone with a Dub and a full valid driving licence to follow in the footsteps of their Drag Racing heros with a few passes up the hallowed quarter mile. The new RWYB classes offer trophies for the quickest cars and vans, both air-cooled and water-cooled.

The pros take over the drag strip from late Saturday afternoon to hold the first round of their National championships. Classes include the crazy VWDRC, crowd favourites Outlaw Anglia, Jap Drag Series and more!

If you don’t drive or can’t afford a junior dragster, then fear not because you can still get yourself on the famous drag strip in a slightly more unorthodox fashion. The Human Powered race is always inundated with weird and whacky entries and has been one of the highlights of the show in recent years. Everyone is welcome to take part, simply roll round to the startline 10 minutes before the race is due to begin with your choice of transport.

Much of the show is specifically tailored for the next generation of VW fans & owners with a whole circus performing throughout the weekend, Live Action shows featuring the 5 tonne beast that is the Podzilla Monster Truck and jaw-dropping freestyle motocross team, Broke FMX, there’s no excuse to bring the games console! And that’s not just because we’ll have our own for the Big Bang computer game competitions in the Fuelers Bar – this year featuring Fifa 14 so get practising, competition will be fierce.

We also have a couple of stage shows to keep the whole family entertained too. On Friday afternoon we have a live hypnotist show so come along and have a laugh, you may even be able to volunteer your participation and prove how real it is! On Saturday, just prior to the kids disco, we have the children’s puppet show with all manner of colourful and entertaining characters.

VWs and Extreme sports go together like strawberries and cream and we have 2 of the best extreme stunt shows on hand to keep you amazed. BMX Demon’s will be accompanied by the MBS Big Air show demonstrating the up and coming sport of mountain boarding at it’s best.

Show & Shine promises to be a fierce competition too with trophies and Autoglym prizes for the winners showcasing some of the best VWs in the Country. The Rust & Rat competition takes place on Saturday where tasteful Rust and Patina is the order of the day – only the coolest rides will be rolling away with trophies from this one.

Those that like to boogie will have plenty to keep their toes tapping throughout the weekend with DJ Sarah Giggle taking to the decks for the dance night on Friday. Meanwhile, over in the Fuelers Bar, VW legend Jensen D Groover presents a night of Soul Sensation with live band Soultown Six. Saturday see’s a newly formed Maroon 5 tribute band; Maroon 4 preceded by Mike Andrews, the UK’s number 1 Robbie Williams tribute act. Alternatively, the Fuelers bar plays host to Rob Rule’s Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Road Show with a live performance from the Lazzy Band.

We understand how important a decent nights kip is to you which is why we have a whole host of camping areas to choose from to make your weekend as comfortable as possible. There’s everything from club camping to ensure you’re with your mates, general camping for those not fussed and quiet camping for those that appreciate a good bit of undisturbed shut eye.

Probably the best part about the Big Bang Camper & Bus Show is the price. Get booked up in advance and you’ll get yourself a weekend ticket for just £35* per person including camping & entertainment for 2 nights and 3 days worth of action.
(*booking fees apply)

For a full line up, further information and to book tickets or club stands please see www.big-bang.co.uk.

No Dub Aid For 2014

Posted by volkszone

The organisers of Dub Aid have asked us to pass on the following information…

Dub Aid as you know has always been about charity.  Each year the team have worked hard to ensure that as much money as possible goes to help our chosen worthy causes.  Everyone from Suppliers and sponsors down to each and every Volunteer have been chosen because of their amazing continued commitment to Dub Aid.  The show would not of been possible without them!

Since Dub Aid 2013 the team have been working tirelessly to find the right venue for the time of year that we hold Dub Aid.  As most of you will be aware DA 2013 was hit by adverse weather which resulted in the gates being closed to visitors as the show ground itself became impassable.  Of course, we’ve been invited back to Charlton Park, but they have asked we hold the show at a different time of the year.  Herein lies the Catch 22; If we hold Dub Aid in the peak summer months not only do we clash with some seriously established shows but our suppliers would be unable to help us, as they have in the past, with some amazing offers and sometimes free products!  This in turn would raise our costs, resulting in reduced profits and potentially no money for the charities!

Believe you me, we’ve racked our brains and visited many different sites over the last 6 months but have been unable to secure a suitable venue that wouldn’t break the bank and is willing to host the show in March or April.  And with only 3 months until our usual show dates it highly unlikely we’ll see a venue step forward to remedy this situation.

For this main reason it is with huge regret and a seriously heavy heart that the DA Team have come to the decision that Dub Aid 2014 will not be possible.  We hope you can understand our decision.

But all is not lost!  We’ve put too much into Dub Aid to see it just disappear!  We’re continuing to search for the right venue and we still believe we’ll find it.  Dub Aid 2015 is our goal, we want it to be bigger and better than previous years!  We’re aiming to be one of the best shows of 2015, and a not to miss show year on year thereafter! So, with your continued support, that you’ve shown us year on year, we have every hope that we’ll be seeing you in 2015!

As soon as a venue is agreed will post news of our success on our website and Facebook page.

Thanks once again for all your support.

The Dub Aid Team

p.s. if you think you could help with a venue or perhaps know someone who might then please get in contact with us!

THE 20th GTI FESTIVAL

Posted by volkszone

GTI Festival
Sunday 13th October
Santa Pod Raceway • NN29 7XA
nasevents@orange.fr
www.vwaction.com/gtifestival/

Yes, there have really been 20 years of GTI Festivals. The inaugural event back in 1993 was staged at Avon Park Raceway – and back then the ‘Outrage II’ VW Funny Car ran a backed-up World Record of 7.70 seconds on the quarter-mile at that event – and just like the GTI Festival – that record lives on.

Back then, the only other GTI show was ‘Inters’ and virtually the only club, was Club GTI.  Things have changed massively in the intervening two decades, with regular events throughout the year these days – and many, many clubs now having been formed. The GTI Festival itself has moved venues a few times before finally settling at Santa Pod – and was moved it to its October date to help avoid the show calendar congestion that summer seems to bring.

The GTI Festival – ‘Season Finale’ is for enthusiasts of all VAG vehicles, SEAT, Skoda, Audi and of course Volkswagen. It is a show where ALL VAG vehicles are welcome with open arms. All clubs are invited to display during the day, and after a very well received revamp of the show layout a few years back – the clubs area is now easily able to accommodate the 40+ clubs who regularly attend the event.

The GTI Festival has ALWAYS been about the cars – and these days the Show & Shine has a massive number of awards including Best Audi, Best Skoda, Best SEAT, and of course, Best VW. With Best Engineering, Best Paint, Best Engine, Best Van and more – and ‘Top Twenty’  trophies open to all marques – the Show & Shine at GTI Festival has awards for all VAG marques.

Only VAG vehicles are permitted on the hallowed Santa Pod quarter-mile at the GTI Festival – and – as pioneered by NAS Events all those years ago, your signing-on fee is for the entire day, not just for one or two runs. Awards on the track include quickest VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda, as well as a number of awards based on engine sizes across all marques.

With the addition of the Dizzy Rascals Handling Circuit, Traders, Girlz N Dubz, Autojumble and Club Displays – we hope that the GTI Festival has something for every VAG enthusiast.

Santa Pod Presents Dragstalgia 2013. New Cars and Drivers Confirmed!

Posted by volkszone

DRAGSTALGIA 2013
Santa Pod Raceway • NN29 7XA
13th-14th July
01234 782828
www.santapod.co.uk

Santa Pod has upped the ante of its already impressive Dragstalgia show by adding even more exciting cars and drivers into the mix. The latest development is the welcome addition of ‘VW vs. V8’ racing, with Sub-10 second VW Beetles battling it out against their better displaced, front-engined arch nemeses!

Now in its third year, Dragstalgia is a tip of the hat to the halcyon days of drag racing with its unashamedly nostalgic themes.  This year, this raucous blend of classic machinery, daring drivers, incredible sounds and wonderful sights takes place on the 13th and 14th July 2013.

Santa Pod Retro Show 2013. Back To The Old School!

Posted by volkszone

RETRO SHOW
SUNDAY 7th JULY
SANTA POD RACEWAY • NN29 7XA

Now in its seventh year, Santa Pod’s increasingly popular Retro Show on Sunday 7th July looks set to hit 2013 with a line up that’s bigger and better than ever! If you’re the kind of enthusiast that despairs at the current crop of ‘Euroboxes’ or simply prefer machines from a gentler age when carbs ruled the roost and a radio was considered a heady option, then you’ll love this show.

Classics from both sides of the Atlantic are most welcome, as are motorbikes, scooters and even the current crop of ‘neo-retro’ incarnations like the new Mini, Beetle and Fiat 500. This year also brings a new retro Truck and Tractor display into the proceedings, so if you’re more Massey than Maserati, or you’d rather ogle a ERF than an ERA, then this is the place for you.

Don’t worry if you don’t even run a retro car yet either, as one lucky show-goer will be taking one home as a giveaway prize! An extremely tidy 1959 Ford Anglia, restored, fuelled, and ready to take home will be a prize car at the show, so make sure you sign up for the competition, because that driver could be you!

After last year’s giveaway of a mint Austin Metro proved so popular, the team has gone all out this year and sourced a very tidy 100E, in all of its MOT and tax-exempt glory, to giveaway at the end of the show to a random ticket holder. The competition will be free to enter for all ticket holders, and simply involves a prize form being filled in – so make sure you get involved on the day!

Proving that the very best classic and retro vehicles really do grow old disgracefully, The Retro Show is one classic event with a difference. Rather than just having rows upon rows of lovingly cherished classics – here, owners and show-goers get to see them running and racing in anger! This is one show where tuning and modifying is admired alongside originality.

With RWYB running all day on the strip, owners will get the chance to flex their automotive muscles in complete safety – and who knows? – maybe settle the odd score or two at the same time. There’s a diverse range of classes to allow everybody to shine somewhere! For those who prefer to watch, the Pros will be running demo passes too, so bring your earplugs! You may also want to leave them in for FireForce, the 10,000bhp Jet-Powered Funny Car, which will shock and amaze in equal measure, as it hits 270 mph… in a shade over 6 seconds!

The new FWD Drag series will be battling it out on the strip, the retro drifters will be proving that sideways had always been a way of life and the mobile dyno will allow you to see whether your old stager has got what it takes to cut it against its peers. If the strip hasn’t sated your racing urges, why not try the Autotest, where you can drive your own car against the clock on a tight handling course – or wander over to enjoy the packed Autoglym Show and Shine.  With the main show day costing just £12 in advance and the weekend starting from £20 (plus booking fees), there’s so much to do and see and so many ways to enjoy your car’s performance – or lack of, The Retro Show is a classic-calendar essential! See you there!

For full details on the event and competition please visit www.retroshow.co.uk or call 01234 782828.

Dubs At The Park – Sunday 19th May

Posted by volkszone

On Sunday 19th May the London & Thames Valley VW (LTV – VWC) club will be staging their  10th  annual one-day Volkswagen show.  It’s open to all Volkswagen and classic car fans and is a great day out for the whole family.
Last year the show had to be cancelled due to bad weather – so this year the show is back with even more fantastic Volkswagens on display, more live music and even more children’s entertainment.  It’s one of the most-friendly and laid-back classic car shows of the VW calendar and attracts a record number of vehicles, previous years have seen around 2500 people in attendance and we hope this year will be no exception – weather permitting!
