KEEPING THE LITTLE ONES AMUSED AT VW ACTION

VW Action is very much a ‘Family’ show and shouldn’t be confused with or judged by any other event.

We’ve got kids. We know what it’s like.

So just for you we have FREE activities for children in VW Action’s ‘Children’s VWorld’.

This is NOT a creche – YOU are responsible for your children but . . .

We have laid on a colouring competition . . . A video show . . . and some other stuff!!

As an extra treat, for all the kids who loved the Summer Party, we have a small beach too. (OK, it’s a sandpit.)

A Facepainter will be on hand to provide FREE facepainting for all children, and everyone painted on Sunday will be eligible to enter the ‘Favourite Face’ competition, judged in the main marquee during prizegiving at 3.00pm on Saturday.

Just find the Children’s VWorld area (near the Information Centre, check programme map for details) and set them to play. Please check programme for times of Facepainter etc. and don’t forget to check out The Poi Circus.

Oh . . . and perhaps the younger visitors are the most likely to be ‘confused’ by the appearance of Santa in September, but he will be coming to hand out the prizes in the ‘Favourite Face’ competition on Saturday. (Only if they are all extremely well behaved, of course.)

ACTIONFACE1 cvwbeach

POI CIRCUS WORKSHOP
Three shows on Saturday, two shows on Sunday – Poi Circus. At other periods during the day, circus skills training is available for anyone who wants to learn. You’d be a clown not to join in.

Courtesy of VW Action, The Poi Circus Workshop will be on site for two full days Poi Circus skills training for everyone . . . have a go!

Workshops are for complete beginners, so you won’t be embarrassed. It’s all part of the fun.

FUN FAIR
The Fun Fair is NOT free. Prices for different rides vary. Fun for kids of ALL ages.

KIDS SHOW & SHINE
In 2008 we introduced two new elements for children attending the show, the Kids Show & Shine, and the Bike Show & Shine. (Strictly speaking, the bike event is not restricted to just children, but there are separate awards for under 17s) FREE to enter.

KIDS1 SHOWSHINEBIKES1

SOME KINDS WORDS A PARENT WROTE ABOUT LAST YEAR’S SHOW
“Thank you. As a mum of four it was great to have ‘free’ stuff for the kids to do, it made a huge difference actually being able to say ‘yes you can have your face painted’ and ‘yes you can go on the bouncy castle’ . The whole event was superb.”

VAGFEST
Sunday 11th July
Santa Pod Raceway,
Wellingborough,
Northants.
NN29 7XA
01279 72 52 52
www.vagfest.co.uk

Introducing yet another NEW SHOW! Well not really… a show with a 20 year pedigree, but radically different. VAGfest, Santa Pod, July 11th 2010 – is everything that the old GTI Festival was, and more. It is a one day show for air and water cooled VW’s, Audis, Seats, Skodas… and it is the only show where all marques get equal billing.

VAG1

All owners of Volkswagen Group vehicles are welcome. The organisers are re really keen to see as many clubs as possible represented, and are also hosting for the first time at any VW show anywhere, the ’show within a show’, Girlz N Dubz. All female owners can get to show off their pride and joy in the ‘Girlz N Dubz’ competition and display. Girlz N Dubz will definitely become the coolest event in the UK for female owners… The girlz will be interviewed about their cars, their interests, and there are a number of trophies up for grabs, for their performance in the show arena as well as on the track. All will have an equal chance against the guys in the regular Show & Shine too.

VAG4

All clubs are invited to display during the day, and the ‘Best Club Display’ at VAGfest carries a £100 charitable donation, to a charity chosen by the winning club. The Show & Shine has a massive number of awards including Best Audi, Best Skoda, Best SEAT, and Best VW, Best Engineering, Best Paint, Best Engine, Best Van and many more. There are also ‘top twenty’ trophies covering all the marques. Awards on the track include quickest VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda, as well as a number of awards based on engine sizes for all VAG vehicles.

VAG3

The organisers are also really keen to see as many transporters, campers etc, including late models, because we really want this show to evolve to include every Volkswagen Group vehicle, past, present and future. Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti are therefore more than welcome too, although owners should be aware that there are several regulars at these shows who are best avoided on the racetrack unless you want to look a bit silly.

As well as the ‘Dizzy Rascals’ autotest course, there will be a couple of demonstration vehicles, a 5 second Fuel Funny Car, and the equally impressive – regular crowdpleaser – The Fireforce Jet Car.

July 11th – Santa Pod – Just £15 for a day of Girlz, Dubz, Clubs, Traders, Sprints, AutoJumble – and everything else ‘VAG’.

RETRODRIFT1

The fourth annual Retro Show is just around the corner and with only two weeks to go everything is now a place with the confirmation of Drift Team Morleysport, the only all retro car team competing in the 2010 British Drift Championship.  They will be displaying their sideways skills in a series of demonstrations at the event using top retro classics like Mk2 Escorts and Toyota Starlets.

The displays will be expertly driven by Ben Morley, Declan Munnelly, Steve “Stiggy” Evans, Tong Fong, Mark Carter and Malcolm Foskett.  They’ll be solo tyre smoking sideways action as well as twin-drifting where two cars race around the twisty course trying to get a close as possible whist producing as much smoke as possible.

Ford Escort

Fans of retro and classic cars and bikes will love The Retro Show at Santa Pod on Sunday the 18th July. This is an event with a difference; rather than just having rows upon rows of lovingly cherished classics, owners and show-goers get the opportunity to see them running and racing in anger!

If you’re the kind of enthusiast that despairs at the current crop of ‘Euroboxes’ or simply prefer machines from a gentler age when carbs ruled the roost and a radio was considered a heady option, then you’ll love this show.  All retro vehicles including cars, motorbikes, scooters and lorries from the 1950’s to the 1980’s are welcome, as well as classics from both sides of the Atlantic.  Even the current crop of ‘neo-retro’ incarnations like the new Mini, Beetle and Fiat 500 are also encouraged along.

Retro Drag 2

During the show we will have many attractions to keep you entertained, including:

Run What Ya Brung (RWYB)
– run your car on the track and get the chance to flex its automotive muscles on a proper racing track (£25 sign on fee payable).

Autoglym Show & Shine Competition – great for the car buffing and polishing fraternity.  A chance to display your pride and joy and perhaps even win a prize.

Fireforce – Martin Hill’s amazing jet-powered funny car.  This will shock and amaze in equal measure, as it hits 270mph in a shade over 5 seconds!

Jet Car

Handling Track – you can drive your own car against the clock around our tight challenging course.  It’s free to enter and there’s a prize for the quickest run of the day.

Retro Drift Cars – sideways action from a better era, Mk2 Escorts and other many other marque’s will be demonstrating how it used to be done.

Arcade Alley – all time great video games Pacman and Space Invaders will be here for you to re-live your youth on, plus many more.  Will you be able to beat that high score you set 25 years ago?

Podzilla Monster Truck – 1500bhp of car-crushing monster truck madness!

Retro Drag Demonstrations – there are many beautiful retro drag cars out there and a few will be bringing them out of the museum and firing them up for the Retro Show.  Keep your eyes peeled as they’re still pretty fast!

Historic Karting Display - celebrating over 50 years of the sport that brought us most of our all-time F1 greats, this is one not to miss.

Movie Car Display – your chance to see those TV and film classics; General Lee, Back to the Future Delorean, Scooby Doo Van and many more movie greats.

movie_cars2

We also have the Autotrader cars for sale area, autojumble, funfair and a selection of traders keep you amused all weekend long.  Not to forget the Saturday night evening entertainment, we have live London band Nexus.  Playing neo-soul, funk and all time favourites their repertoire is sure to impress.

Are you a member of a club?  If so then great, we have free in field parking so you and your mates can park together and show off the club.  A prize is up for grabs for the “Best Club Display”.

Get it in the diary now!  Advanced tickets are available (up to 9th July) for only £12 for the Sunday and £20 for full weekend camping and entertainment.  For club parking pre-registration is needed. Kids under 13 go free, so why not pile the whole clan into your classic and cruise on down?

Caroline Day, Marketing Manager of Santa Pod Raceway said, “We are delighted to be supporting the MS Trust at this year’s FIA Drag Racing Championships. The relationship has been building for some time and we hope to help by making our drag racers and fans more aware of the disease and of the hard work the Trust does to help. Much of this started when Drag Racing fan and MS sufferer Karen Aston contacted us over a year ago. She has become so hooked on our sport that she is now training up to become a drag racer herself and will entering her first Championship this year.”

Santa Pod’s Powerfest. Putting The ‘Rush’ In Rushden!

Posted by volkszone

If you are a motorsport fan – or just want to see something a little out of the ordinary, make sure that you make your way to Rushden town centre at 2pm on the 22nd of May – for the Rushden Powerfest!

DragsterPOP08
This unique celebration of outrageous machinery parades through the town centre in order to promote the FIA Main Event which takes place at Santa Pod Raceway between the 28th and 31st of May. It’s a high-octane mix of powerful cars, motorbikes and dragsters pounding the tarmac in an unadulterated celebration of all things fast and loud!

David Lloyd Jones, Santa Pod’s General Manager, commented “This is our little way of saying thanks to the local community and giving everybody the chance to see the simply incredible machines that race at Santa Pod Raceway. Last year’s Parade of Power event in Wellingborough was a great success as a real family event, so we thought it would be fun to hold something similar in Rushden. This year, being the events first, we’re hoping for good weather and to draw a good crowd so that we can do it again in future. It’s one not to miss!”

DriftPOP08m

The event will feature dragsters, motorbikes and other machines parading through Rushden town centre. GTI Spring Festival, Santa Pod Raceway, Sunday 11th April 2010

GTI Spring Festival
Santa Pod Raceway
Sunday 11th April 2010

Well – it’s called the ‘GTI Spring Festival’, but the first major event of the water cooled VW season is actually aimed at every current and past model in the VAG group range. From Sciroccos and Golfs and Polos, through SEAT models, Ibiza, Cupra, Leon, Skodas, Audis – all are welcome at the show, which takes place at Santa Pod Raceway, Bedfordshire on 11th April 2010. The ‘GTI Spring Festival’ now in its fourth year, is now without doubt a very major season opener. With Sprinting (RWYB), Show & Shine, Clubs, Autojumble and Traders, it follows a simple formula which has been hugely popular. The show itself offers all day sprinting for a single signing on fee, which means you can make one run, or as many runs as you can make during the entire day. But don’t forget your driving licence (you cannot sign on for sprinting without it.)

3399634320_012f8dee85_o
3401358323_0c492f3e3c_o

The Show & Shine is one of the best in the country, with in the region of 100 contestants. There is no charge for entry into the Show & Shine, and it is becoming a popular show at which to debut new or revamped cars after the winter lay off. Gates open at 8.00am with the dragstrip open from 10.00am. There is plenty of opportunity to browse trade stands, check out the autojumble and club displays, as well as watch (or even try a few runs on) the dragstrip. Overseas visitors to the show will receive free admission on production of their ferry tickets/proof of travel, so perhaps we will see a few more European visitors this year.

3399065787_c52f6cd636_o
3399635400_a8658bff66_o

Santa Pod itself is just about the best venue for this type of event in the whole of Europe, meeting all international timing standards. The timing equipment is accurate to within less than one thousandth of a second.

If you are looking for those increasingly rare parts, check out the GTI Spring Festival Autojumble to see if you can find that extra bit you’ve always wanted! All of the autojumble plots are in a designated area which is filled on a first come basis on the day, and usually full of bargains for the eagle eyed buyer.

So, please don’t forget – April 11th, Santa Pod. And once again – all watercooled VWs are equally welcome, Golf, Polo, Lupo, Passat, Jetta, Scirocco, Derby, Corrado, Bora, New Beetle, Sharan, Octavia, Fabia, Cupra, Leon – the list goes on. If you are a VAG lover, it’s the one day show for you!
