Whilst drivin our t25 1.9 water-cooled van at a constant speed of around 60mph to bug jam, it ran quite warm and the temerature gauge light was flashing. I have checked that it has water in it and it has so im a bit stumped, any help will be great cheers.

If your lucky it may be just a dodgy waterlevel sender or expansion cap . Take it to a specialist and have them pressure test the cooling system , your problem could be indacative of a head gaskey problem . Good luck.

Are you checking the level on the tank in the engine bay, or the one behind the flap?

If its the one behind the flap you need to check the one in the engine bay, as a failed cap could leave the rear tank full and the other empty.

If you're checking in the engine bay and the tank is full, try taking the sender out and giving the probes a clean. If they get oily they dont conduct and this shows as low water (flashing light). Dont overtighten when it goes back in...

Iffy cap has been the culprit of many a false "head gasket" diagnosis.

theyre supposed to flash when you first start the engine, then go off. Shows the light is working :)

flashing red light is water level indicator and overheat warning....will flash when ignition turned on to indicate water level is ok and will go out after 5 secs or so if ok....if flashing when temp gauge reading is past the 12 O clock position will indicate low water level and prob overheating....have found several times to be the blue expansion tank cap failing and pumping water into the filler tank at the rear flap.....replace the blue cap before anything else....I always top up water system first in the expansion tank (blue cap) and secondly the filler tank in rear flap......

I have the same problem, as the electrical connections on the dash are goosed - have got a new dash to install so hopefully this will mean that my temp gauge and fuel gauge will come back to life

been for a longish run in it today and the light comes on when the needle reahes just past the half-way mark but the needle stays at that position as it did before the light started to come on. Ive checked both tanks and they both have water in. AAAHHHH HAHA

The level sensor is a tenner from gsf,put a new cap on,they arer a fiver, change them to be sure, keep an eye on the bottle in the engine bay,if it drops, check underneath round the heads for staining or leaks.

I always tell people to carry a spare cap, sometimes they just blow for no reason.

Dashboard pcb's fail and the temp gauge is the first thing to do play up,is everything else ok on the dash pod?

Check to make sure the whole of the radiator is warm and that you have warm air coming out the heaters. If there is not enough water in the system or if there is air in the system then the top half of the rad will be cold compared the the bottom half. Also if you have air in the system there will be no hot air coming out the heater. If this is the case then the system will need to be bled. See the haynes manual or the wiki on here.
