I have a set of basic steels painted a nice cream and red to go with the cars paint. Gonna then put white wall bands on the tyres but not sure what tyre sizes to go for to get the best poss look.
Help please as I've gotta get these tyres sorted for mot within next two weeks.

Thanks all

Your post is a little light on details.
You dont say what size (width) or year wheels you have. or give us much else to go on (is the car lowered or stock height, what "look" are you going for, etc, etc)

Stock size tyre would be 155/15 or 165/15 wheel

'best look' is subjective. on stock steels i'd say stock 155r15s look best, maybe 165r15s on the back to make it look a little more manly.

my personal 'best look' on a bug would be 195/65r15s on 6.5J rims all round (rally style).

Hi just been down the garage and the rims are 4.5j x 15 on the back and 4j x 15 front. The bug is on dropped spindles and will be dropped a spline or two at the back (I say a spline or two as currently in unsure what has been done at the back and I want it a bit lower than what it currently is. ( it's on aftermarket 14" alloys currently.

When I say 'best look' agreed this is completely personal to each individual so..... I'm hoping to go for a narrow low pro look on the front and wider chunkier tyre on the back (although not a huge higher profile difference from front) if that makes sense.

You will want 145/65 15 Smart Car tyres on the front unless your beam is narrowed
I would run those on the front and stock 165/15 on the rear - personal choice

My old bug was running 135/80 front and 155/80 rear on 4" original stock rims :) I'm not a fan of Smart car tyres, not enough tyre wall. No rubbing with the 135's with a standard width beam ;)

Lovely looking bug dude. As I want to put a set of whitewall inserts on too this set up would be much better as a 80 profile apparently gives you more chance of the inserts working and therefore lasting. Also putting inserts on takes away the chunky sidewall look giving a effect of a lower profile. I like the look of your tyre set up there. Many thanks

Cheers dude, I got my 135's from here...

It says no stock but give them a call.

The taller wall give a better ride also ;) Personally I wouldn't touch the whitewall inserts though as they have a tendancy to wear the wall. Dangerous if you ask me

Im currently running 155/80 all round, looking to go 165/80 on back think mine are 4j not 4.5j cant find stamp on the wheels but heres mine with the whitewalls inserted, I personally wouldnt go any smaller than 145 on front..kinda scare me a little ;) but each to own

Wow........stunning bug. Same paint job on your rims that I'm gonna run there so thanks for that pic looks kick ass!

Is that a 2 spline drop at the back? Also I'm not sure what year my wheels are. My bug is a 1969 but the wheels I bought off flee bay. Reason I say is I really want to be running the dome hubs but obviously standard on 69 would be the flat hubs. Anyone know how I can tell (or whether u can make domes fit?

I ran the 135's for over 5 years and never once skidded or felt dangerous :)

The 165x15 is not an approved fitment for the 4J wheel. The minimum rim width is 4.5J.

Or driven it above walking pace;)

Thanks all away for winter now ;) yeah went for red as it is abit of a contrast, im not sure what the rear set up is, think it might be 2splines, its sitting on the bump stops ...by looks of your wheels, they are 67+ as our 4 studs rather than 5, think they were the same from 69+ but dont quote me on that..

Yeah, think 165 could squueze them on, wouldnt go any bigger than that, seen many 4j's with mega mega tires, 195+ but not my bag
