hi there, first post on here
just bought this bug, waiting for it to be delivered saturday morning :D
my first beetle, will be doing a full body off nut and bolt resto, with no comprimises :) aim is to build a show standard car, will be keeping it subtle. plan is to sort chassis first, and then engine, followed by the bodywork last.
milage reads 13000, although i think the clocks have probable come back around!
its had a respray at some point, although it is flaking off, only picked up two tiny skims of filler on the rear quarters.
seems generally solid, rotten floorpans, although seems to have had some kind of heater channel repair before

got everything sorted today
what melted

the wire was for my brake light switch and horn

assuming the new steering wheel shorted it out
cut out the loom

had to rewire my brake lights, pass. headlight and indicators, and also my ignition barrell burnt out, so now on a secret push start

kept the wiring as neat as possible, and shultzed up all under the bonnet.

still need to conduit cover it all, and fit a carpet.
also will be removing the copper lines and replcing with push fit connectors with nylon lines and dash mounted valves when it arrives
