We've pulled the engine out of Lemmy and I've noticed that we need to replace the exhaust (holed - I could hear it blowing when I drove it too) - is there any way of knowing if the heat exchangers are dead?
when my heat exchanger failed it "ducted" exhaust fumes through the heating system into the car, ie the car smelled of exhaust, and was nosier on one side...
Ah, I see. Mine wasn't working at all - twisting the knob (oo er missus) did nothing. Its possible mine is a bit stuck from being in storage for a long time.
Take the heat exchanger off and block off central pipe with a hand , then blow down other end of central pipe if you hear or feel air escaping they are leaking. Inspect outer casing for holes and see if flaps move freely. The cheap repros only last a few years
I think my husband mentioned that he couldn't freely move the flaps by hand. Need to investigate further - thanks!
