Engineering Tech A Q & A Forum devoted to Engineering Issues that don't necessarily fall into Aircooled or Watercooled Tech. Got a problem? Or an engineering question? Then ask in here. Please, no 'For Sale' or 'Want To Buy' ads, plugs for your 'business', links to 'for sale' ads or Ebay links to your (or your mate's) auction (use the VZi 'Classifieds' section) - this also includes thinly veiled 'What's My Car Worth?' threads and "Who Can Sell Me A . . ." posts.

Default 944 Master cylinder

Hi
My beetle currently runs 944 brakes all round with late 944 turbo calipers. This all runs via a beetle master cylinder (disk brake Version)
I'm about to remove the front beam etc to refresh the front suspension so the master cylinder is within easy reach. I also have an early alloy 944 sitting in my garage.
Is it worth replacing? how does it fit? any adapter required? I don't want the car off the road long hence me asking for advice.
My quick research shows that an early 944 has 19/19 mc off set but I cant find anything on the 1500 beetle master cylinder currently.
Thanks

I believe these are fairly straightforward to fit however, you will need to fabricate some new brake pipes & use a T piece to mount a brake light (pressure switch) as the 944 master cylinder has no provision for a brake light switch.
