M4 screw into alloy housing . Despite lots of plus gas the head sheared . Is trying to weld a nut on worth a try or should I try to drill it out. I'm guessing it's too small to weld successfully
I'd be drilling but it wont be easy, if its not corroded drilling might work best, if there is bad corrosion heat might be more useful.
I don't know that's why I'm interested.
I did have the same problem with M5 corroded for an ABS sensor in a S Type Jag and drilled it out but it wasn't a perfect job. Everything on those cars seemed to be steel in aluminium and very seized, horrible to work on.
I'm waiting until I can take it into work some weekend . There is a good quality pillar drill there and I will try to drill it out but suspect drilling it square wont be easy . M4 is pretty small
Its all about planning, I once had a difficult one so I called Dormer drills, explained what I had to drill bought a drill bit for £8 and hey presto sorted with no fuss in a few minutes.
Drill and tap carefully. Use a centre punch to centralise drill. Run thread cutter through it to clean. Pita job I hate it.
