Default Fl4tlanders VW Club - Club Race Car Project

Ok, a quick hello form Fl4tlanders VW Club

if you didn't already know, we are building a club race car over the winter, debuting at Big Bang 2008

the car will be known as the JAGERBUG in reference to many clubmembers favourite tipple

this thread will be mainly photo's of the strip down / build up, for a more detailed description of what's going on you could always check out our club forum on http://com3.runboard.com/bfl4tlander...club.f3.t10999

the main aim of putting this thread up is to raise awareness of the vehicle and to offer space on the car for sponsorship (cheeky i know but as the project is being done on a tight tight budget every little helps!)

right. the base vehicle....

1972 1200 beetle, in a bit of a bad way to say the least

the roff is pretty badly dented on the other side after a tree fell on the roof! won't matter as it's receiving a mild roof chop anyway

car was stripped of all panels and split from the pan

this is where all the fun will take place, it's handy having such a big garage in the club

doesn't look like much of a racer here does it!

body off

pan, or what was left of it!

stripped down even further

Fl4tlanders, meet the Fl4tlanders, they're a modern stone age vw club (to the tune of The Flintstones)

what was left of the pan haves removed with an air chisel

down to the spine

then the fun bit, stripping years of cack off the spine (cheaper than blasting it)

double grinding action

you could eat your dinner off there now, well, maybe

and i trial fit of a pan half

a bit more grinding to make sure the spine is as clean as poss to accept the new pan halves

another trial fit

before craking out the welder

and hey presto, a solid floorpan is once more

that's the work done to date, over the last 3 or 4 weeks. we meet up on a wednesday night, anything from a couple of club members up to half a dozen at a time!

more pictures to follow tonight....

I think we need an extractor fan *cough*. Atleast we'll have some fond memories when we are admitted to the chest ward at the hospital
