Yuzee's 66 bug Resto Thread

After 10 years away from the bug scene I decided last year to build a beach buggy with my son. This was completed last year and since then my heels have been kicking around looking for something to do other than DIY around the house so I went and bought this



Ceri a mate on Airdiction (my local VW club) came along with her
car transporter and away we went to Bristol to bring LYW to Wales (That’s a story on its own)

Anyway, the car was stored next door for two weeks and I bought it round my house last night and there was a BOING noise and the right hand side now slopes like this. (NO fat Driver jokes please)

No Idea whats happened, perhaps a shock absorber gone?



Its my intention to do a complete body off restoration over the next few months and its a good job I had this objective in mind as this is what I found today whist stripping out the inside.

Rear R/H heater channel fooked and welded to the floor



Front Heater channel fooked and welded too the floor




Front L/H Heater channel fooked and door A post badly repaired



And more bitumen than the M4 thats probrably hiding a few more surprises



I've just ordered new heater channels and floorpans from VW Heritage for starters and I'm off outside now to see whats hiding behind the wings.

I hope to keep this project going all the way to the end so starting this thread will keep me motivated, I'll keep you updated on my progess as I go along

first pic looks pretty sweet! nice interior too. I doubt a knackered shock would cause the suspension to drop like that, I would guess more likely to be a torsion bar/spring plate issue. one to watch...

looks like you have more than your hands full she's deffinitely a lady in demand....when i bought my beetle it appeared to be slammed like that then unbolted the wings to find two absolutely obliterated struts.....shes all fixed now and rides high to the sky

Cheers guys, gonna go and look for a lock up today because room is tight with two beetles in the drive and a beach buggy in the garage. (and the missus is getting a little tetchy)
I bought this as a donor vehicle but its in too good a condition to cut up, so this is my next project after the 66.

Johnser - I think your probrably right, the back end has been really slammed down and the spring plate may have come off its retaining grove on the chassis. I'm going to take a look at this later today.

Been following your thread as well, your pretty ingenius making all those plates up, giving me some real food for thought so going to watch your thread real close
