Got a bit pissed off cutting things out today so I thought I'd make a start and repair something.
The rear outriggers were really causing me a problem because I couldn't find anywhere what made replair panels so I made a pair of my own. one for each side.

So after making a template I cut the shitty bit out

Welded my new exclusive panel in

Gave it a quick coat of primer and as the farmers say "Properrrr Jobbb"

everything that was rotten has now been removed. Its away for shotblast tomorrow and the repairs to the chassis are next.

I dont like welding on the floor so I had these made. Now I can weld with ease (There even adjustable)

Thats how I got em.

I keep em for a while then Sam lends em out to fuckers like you and I dont see em again for years

Bit of an update - Fitted a new Napoleons hat and bottom framehead plate today. What a twat of a job it was getting the old ones off, the Germans certainly know how to abuse the frugal use of spotwelds.

Pictures to follow my batteries gone flat on the camera and I'm chillin out on the apple juice

good progress, and fast too!

I must make myself some trestles too, I keep working on the floor and it kills my knees and back after a while, thanks for reminding me how quickly I could sort it!

Cheers matey, The trestles are brilliant and allows you to weld comfortably which realy makes a differrence to the quality of the weld. (Well it does for me anyway)
I'm making extension pieces for the top of the trestles this weekend to make them wider so that I can position them side on with pieces of 3x2 across them. This will allow me to put the shell on the trestles and roll the chassis underneath when I've finished working

post some pics later when I get home

Default Framhead Repairs Pics

Update
I've got piffed off waiting 3 weeks for parts from Status VW and decided to buy the floorpans from Heritage which will be here tomorrow. be able to get a bit more done then. I'll still have to wait for the R/H heater channel from Status though otherwise I wont have a match.

Any way ; Heres a few before and after pictures of the framehead after replacing the napoleons hat and the underside of the framehead panels.

Before

After

All welded in and etched primed. I need to buy some seam sealant to put over the welds but I want the type that can be painted over and preferably in a tube that can be put in a mastic gun. Anybody have any ideas where I can get it from?

I'm going to waxoyl all the framhead and tunnel areas when the chassis is completed because of the fire risk when welding

Thanks for all the interest in the thread guy's it gives me the inspiration to get things done. More updates later
