Default Ever used HYCOTE spray paint? How many 400ml can to paint a car?

Hi,

has anyone ever used HYCOTE spray paint. It's cheap and i'm thinking of using it to paint the outside of the car till I can afford a proper paint job.

P.S. How many cans of 400ml to cover the outcide of a bug? 12 of paint and 12 of laquer?

Look for the 'Paint your car cheap' threads on here using enamel paint and a roller. Its a lot less messy than using spray cans and probably even cheaper.

I'm currently using hycote satin black on mine, its going on well and is a nice finish. Not too sure about how long it will stay looking good, but hycote seems to be the most popular option for doing it.

I've used 11 cans so far on mine, and i've done all of it apart from the front valance, so 12 sounds about right. If i were you, id go for 14 or so, just to be on the safe side.

As for the laquer, i would imagine it goes on like the paint, in which case the same amount.

Its worth getting a spray gun trigger, gives you alot more control and means your fingers dont die. Something like this: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...tegoryId_90910

My frind did the enamel stuff, with the electric spray gun . It was incredibly messay and required a lot of sanding.

i've actualy got that stuff in black and an electric gun too, just a bit to scared too do it. So HYCOTE seems the best option, especially as I'm only going white. The roller technique just seems a little odd. And 100 quid for 12 cans of each (primer, white and laquer) can't be too bad. With little or no sanding, just a quick rub down to flatten back between coats.

Metal head Dandy, how many coats did you get? I'm hoping for 2 of the colour and 2 of laquer from the 12 cans of each.

I did my whole car in Hycote satin black in 13 cans (no lacquer).

I've since done it with the roller method but it was a million times MORE hassle.

i did my car in hycote flat black. 11 cans (but didnt paint the decklid) has lasted the winter pretty well and hasnt needed that much touching up

id avoid the hycote coloured stuff if i were you. i used to use it to touch up my orange paint (before i went flat black) and every single can is a different shade (hence why i went flat black)

I've never thought of spraying a whole car with cans!

But couldnt you just buy a litre of cellulose and a refillable aerosol?
