Default Der Kreuzer (Type 3)

I have a squareback

***Go to page 3 for up to date posts***

It needs some work, and some pieces, like an engine and gearbox...
But i hope to have it done soon, at the latest for bugjam.
Oh, and im on a strict budget so first time around im just going to get it on the road and cruise for the summer.
Next year i'll pull it in and redo all the not so nice bits

Here are a few pics-

First job is to see what im dealing with and clean, patch and replace as necessary.

Front doesnt look too bad, bumper mount needs doing but the rest is ok for me!

Rear wasnt too bad... until i poked a hole!

Other side doenst look too clever either! Oh well, i'll get round to that side later.

I had a slight problem getting the spring plate cover off, sheared the bottom bolt off! (Channel side)

Probably drill it and try and tap, or i'll get a longer bolt and weld a nut onto the back.

Im loving it too!
I only get to do an hour or so a night on it though.

Hey Danny, do you have any old pics of it in your vast collection per chance?

Im still learning to weld, so my repairs aren't going to be up to much at this stage
I bodged a bit more tonight!
By the time im done, i might be able to weld a bit better so i'll do these bits again...

Had a most triumphant day today!

Me and my mate borrowed this-

And cruised up to Manchester to collect an engine-

It has some endfloat but i plan to strip it to the crank and rebuild it, replacing anything that it needs.
That's the plan anyway!

After we collected the engine we moved down south a bit and met Matt who proceded to help us load the car.
I got an IRS box at last too!
Cheers for your help Matt! Much appreciated

I have some tin but im not sure if im missing anything?

I know i need the bits under the pushrod tubes, and im thinking that im missing a bit of the air filter?

Also, the right hand carb is a Solex 32 PDSIT-3 whereas the left one is 32-34 PDSIT-2.
Anybody know what the difference is? Will it be ok to use a comination?
Im missing one of the connecting bars if anybody has one they dont want?
The vertical in this pic-

I started stripping the engine, got down to this. Got to get the flywheel off but i snapped my breaker bar trying!
Its got about 0.15mm endfloat at a rough estimate.

I looked under the wing at this bit and decided it be easier to cut the section out instead of trying to weld a patch in there...

I know it doesnt have the edge turned out on it... and the weldin aint the best but at least its solid now.

Got to do the bottom of the heater channel and the edge of the floorpan, got em cut out and tacked the heater bottom in and then an absolute disaster happened...

I ran out of gas!

Guess i should start grinding the welds back and tidy it up a bit, not that bothered though, because im going to re-do most of it again.

Took the sump plate off the engine!

How the hell did it get that bad??
Under the thin cover of oil was a load of what looked like silt.
I tried picking some up with a magnet but it didnt happen so i guess its not metal, just looks like somebody ran the engine for 3 years without air filters!
