Default bad luck betty! ('60 cal looker)

well figured id start a new post since ive not updated the old one since last year! this is my ongoing rolling project bad luck betty! i gave her a bit of a mechanical resto last year when i got her and having driven her for a while now i've decided to make a few alterations before the summer gets here!

theres not a lot of visible changes going on except a new set of wheels! anyway she looked like this....

she's running 4 stud disk brakes all round, a 5" narrowed front beam, dropped spindles, and a hurst line loc,
inside its pretty stock except a berg shifter, a monster tacho,
and a nice old woodrim wheel, out back there was a warm 1914cc which i had planned to turbo but it never really got past the thinking about it stage and ive decided i like the bark of the twin carbs so its now on the bench being made into a pretty nice 2109cc,

engine spec for anyone intrested...
2109cc
cb 044 cnc super magnums (42 x 37),
case full flowed and slightly clearanced,
cb 76mm stroker crank,
lightened flywheel (crank and flywheel ballanced)
scat H beam rods,
mahle 94mm b&p's,
engle fk10 cam,
steel straight cut gears,
extra deep sump,
dell 45's on matchported inlets,
CR is about 9.4:1

theres just a couple more jobs to do before its ready to go back in, ive sorted out the rocker geometry and ive just gotta cut the pushrods to length! and bolt the sump etc back up!

the box is just getting some new rhino mounts and its going back in! had a nice cruising speed so it'll do for the summer till i can afford a nice rancho box..

and i got the wheels ive been after for a while! some nice 3.5 & 5.5 pollished centerlines fronts have some worryingly skinny firestone's on, 125 15's and rears are 205 70 15's think i'll maybe swap the 125's for some 135 or 145's, would be a bit happier with a little more contact area!

she's looking a bit sad at the moment but fingers crossed next week i'll have some good progress pics!

steve

cheers dudes!

well the engines finaly ready to go back in so heres a couple of pics ....

dry build of the engine to make sure my calculations were right!, running 0 deck height on the barrels and added a .040 thou headgasket to get the desired deck height, with the chamber cc's it shoud give me a nice 9.4:1 cr.

all together!, set the crank endfloat, and moved onto the rocker geometry, made myself an adjustable pushrod tool and its all nice now! i think!

then all the tinware went back on to make sure it all fits nice still and i coudlnt resist putting the carbs etc back on to have a look :P

just gotta get it a bit closer to the car now! am considering painting up the tinware, it still looks nice but the powdercoat is starting to look grubby now in places!, cant decide weather to go gloss black or what!?

just waiting on the new mounts now and i can get the gearbox back in and the engine slapped in afterwards!

lol well not updated this in quite a while so here goes!

well since last time ive been having a lot of fun motoring about in her and nothing realy changed much till i went to minis v beetles at york raceway a couple of weeks back! decided i wanted to get at least a couple of runs down the strip so i could measure her up against my old turbo mini! the good news is she'd wipe the floor with it! managed a 14.0 at 96mph and i was going steady with the old 1200 'box! (mini was a 14.9 last time i went) the bad news is going steady with the box wasn't enough to keep it alive! so ive decided i liked racing the bug and i want to enter the Air Cooled Eliminators with it next year at york! so here starts the "drag racer" part of the project!

thats how she was standing!

now were here....

i drove her to york, raced her all day and then limped home with a very poorly sounding gearbox! so the decision was made to start the winter rebuild early and get her done for a good seasons racing next year!
i dont want to go as far as making her soley a drag car but i want to make life easier down at the strip so there will be some race oriented ideas and parts here and there and since the moneys going into a new beefed up 'box and suspension/chassis parts she prolly wont look this nice again for a while but im intrested in it going fast not looking pretty! :P
anyway pulled her into my lockup and started to pull her appart from the back, removed the rear wings and was quite pleased to see there's no rot to worry about! i found a bit of filler on the drivers side but it turned out to be only a thin bit that was covering a previous repair! the only bits im not too pleased about are the bumper hanger repairs, they look a bit bodged but tbh their strong enough just not too pretty and theres better things to spend cash and time on before i look at them!

next up i decided the engine wanted to come out! and to make life easier i decided a removable rear vallance would be good! so off it comes!

then out came the engine with very little fuss!

next step is to strip down the rest of the body and remove it from the floorpan so i can assess the state of the pan propperly and repair/renovate it up to a better standard! the centerlines and 4 stud disks are going in favour of a porsche patturn disk and drum kit and some fuchs or gas burners!

more to come this weekend....

my bug at york! a fuel union came loose on one of the dells and she ran out of juice at about the 1/8th mile marker! so was only a 14.5 on that run! :P

well a sunday well spent i think!! spent pretty much all day pulling her to bits and im glad to say so far i've not unearthed any horrors or major problems! and she came to bits easy peasy!

both the front inner wings are in as good a condition as the rears! no rot or problems to worry about really!

tother side!

like that shot!

doors practicaly fell off! they were really loose actualy! think i need to invest in some thread lock!

very little rust to worry about! theres a little surface rust on the inside of the rear quarter pannels but nothing a light sand wont get rid of!

the origional colour! thinking about painting her in it again! just gotta work out what it is? any ideas anyone??

one last shot of it as a whole! just so i can remember it!

and......... oh dear its in bits!

again nothing major to worry about! heater channels are all mint! and the floorpan dosnt look too bad either! will know more when i get the thick layer of sound deadening off it! it all seems to be pretty origional with just a couple of patches round the battery tray! all in all pretty pleased!

next job.... strip the pan and repair / detail it! ...
