Default New Beetle - Boot wont open

I suspect it electrical. Boot wont open from either the key fob or the button inside the car.

Have tried with the key lock turned either way!

1) Is it likely to be fuse or actuator?
2) How do I get the boot open to look?

Thanks

Neil

what year is it? Does it have the swivel badge? And can you hear any noises?

probably either a fuse gone or the motor. Check the fuses first. I belive the motor is under the plastic panel on the boot lid - I dunno if you can get that off easily with the boot closed though?

Another thing to try would be to remove the fuel flap/boot open switch from the door card and swap the connections around, just to rule that one out, but if it doesn't work on the key, then that's unlikely.

Go into the boot from the inside and look for the emergency boot release on the tailgate near the lock, it has the boot open symbol on it.
Pull the bung out and carefully pull the cord, this is directly on the release mechanism so the tailgate will open, then you can remove the plastic trim and check the motor.

I've heard that you can have this problem if your battery isn't fully charged.
Sounds stupid i know, but have you tried the button inside the car when your engine is running/ticking over?

Thanks, guys for all your help. I managed to open it with the pull cord this afternoon.

It works intermitantly now!

I think that its a combination of the cold, being left out all yesterday. I'll see how it goes for a bit!

I have the same problem and am trying to manually open (as above). I have not been able to locate the manual opening cord. Can anyone help me by telling me exactly where it is?

Thanks
