Default Beetle 1300 rear axle nut torque 217 or 253 ft lbs?

Got a 70 beetle and 2 workshop manuals, one says the axle nut should be done up to 217ft lbs , the other 253 ft lbs which is correct? mines a std one cv joint per side, thanks

217, I believe. As long as it's up tight, and you can get the split pin in, you're laughing .
