Chat/Discussion Kind of like a VW club online - you can sit in our virtual pub and talk about whatever you want to. All opinions are valid, but please no insulting (other than to our intelligence,) abusive or libellous posts. Please feel free to post your opinion on any given subject, but also be aware that others have the equal right to disagree with you - and some will certainly tell you so. No 'For Sale' or 'Want To Buy' ads, plugs for your business, links to 'for sale' ads or Ebay links to your (or your mate's) auction (please use the VZi 'Classifieds' section) - this also includes thinly veiled "What's my car worth?" threads too (please use the 'Dude! What's My Car Worth?' forum) - and please don't use just to post links to other VW forums or websites - we are aware that other sites exist (obviously), but blatant 'plugs' (poaching) will simply be deleted.

Default Volkswagen EA 266 prototype Beetle replacement

Quote:
Development of the EA 266 was commissioned to Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche KG in the late 1960s by the then head of Volkswagen, Dr Kurt Lotz. Volkswagen had included a number of requirements in its specifications for this vehicle, determining that it should be sporty, with comfort and driving-safety features, and that it should be both spacious and compact. Eventually, however, in 1972, Volkswagen chose not to launch production of the EA 266, since the EA 337, the Golf, had by then evolved to series maturity. The EA 266 on display on loan from Autostadt is one of two specimens of this model still in existence

I think it's cool, like a sort of '60s aircooled Lupo.

So God was creating man. And his little assistant came up to him and he said: "Hey, we've got all these bodies left, but we're right out of brains, we're right out of hearts and we're right out of vocal chords." And God said: "Fook it! Sew 'em up anyway. Smack smiles on the faces and make them talk out of their arses." And lo, God created the Tory Party...

very true but i think if vw had relied on that to go forward into the '70s we may have not seen any cars after 1980 wearing the badge.

Interestingly, the car is midengined, rear wheel drive and water cooled, I wonder what the engine looks like, perhaps some early wasserboxer?
