Default thermostat gap

Hi all, never had a stat fitted when got engine so unsure is this enough of a gap to fully open air flaps?

I think i've got a couple of stats somewhere, did you want me to try an dig em out and measure them?

its fooked, should be 3cm closed with a 1.5cm gap!

the whit stuff round the end could well be the crystals forming from the escaping alcohol.
