Dub Aid 2013

Posted by volkszone

Those of you who can remember the mid-1980’s will of course remember ‘Live Aid’, the charity concert which had some of the top bands in the world at the time coming together to raise money for African famine victims.

Those of you in the Volkswagen scene who can remember 2011 should also remember the first ‘Dub Aid’, nowhere near on the same scale as ‘Live Aid’ but a similar idea, putting on a VW show with great live music to raise money for charity.

The idea came about from a simple discussion thread on where an idea was banded about to have a charity cruise to show support for the troops repatriating from overseas conflicts to the town of Royal Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire.

Within a few months a team of volunteers had put together not just a cruise but a whole weekend of entertainment, camping, a show and shine and much more, all set in the grounds of Castle Combe Race Circuit near Chippenham.

The event was a huge success with over £9,000 raised which was donated to several charities but the main beneficiary was Help For Heroes.

Gluttons for punishment as they are, the motley team of volunteers decided to repeat the event in 2012 and so took the show to Charlton Park in Malmesbury and put on another truly awesome weekend and raised a similar figure to the previous year but this time for the R.N.L.I.

2013 see’s ‘Dub Aid’ return to Malmesbury for the third instalment and this year, funds are being raised for ‘Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital’.

It’s fantastic to see ordinary members of the Volkswagen community giving up a huge amount of time to ‘put something back’ and help other people, remember they do not take a single penny in wages, as soon as the costs of the event are covered, all profit goes to the charities!

So if you love Volkswagens, camping and live music all set in a really chilled out site with a great vibe, be sure to check out and buy your tickets for the next show on the 15-17th March 2013.

The show keeps on growing and weekend tickets have sold out fast in both of the previous years and as such, need to be purchased in advance. Day visitors can pay on the gate and with a club display on the Saturday and the main show and shine on the Sunday, combined with live music all weekend, a huge traders area and lots of activities for kids, there is something for everyone to love about ‘Dub Aid’.
