KEEPING THE LITTLE ONES AMUSED AT VW ACTION

VW Action is very much a ‘Family’ show and shouldn’t be confused with or judged by any other event.

We’ve got kids. We know what it’s like.

So just for you we have FREE activities for children in VW Action’s ‘Children’s VWorld’.

This is NOT a creche – YOU are responsible for your children but . . .

We have laid on a colouring competition . . . A video show . . . and some other stuff!!

As an extra treat, for all the kids who loved the Summer Party, we have a small beach too. (OK, it’s a sandpit.)

A Facepainter will be on hand to provide FREE facepainting for all children, and everyone painted on Sunday will be eligible to enter the ‘Favourite Face’ competition, judged in the main marquee during prizegiving at 3.00pm on Saturday.

Just find the Children’s VWorld area (near the Information Centre, check programme map for details) and set them to play. Please check programme for times of Facepainter etc. and don’t forget to check out The Poi Circus.

Oh . . . and perhaps the younger visitors are the most likely to be ‘confused’ by the appearance of Santa in September, but he will be coming to hand out the prizes in the ‘Favourite Face’ competition on Saturday. (Only if they are all extremely well behaved, of course.)

POI CIRCUS WORKSHOP
Three shows on Saturday, two shows on Sunday – Poi Circus. At other periods during the day, circus skills training is available for anyone who wants to learn. You’d be a clown not to join in.

Courtesy of VW Action, The Poi Circus Workshop will be on site for two full days Poi Circus skills training for everyone . . . have a go!

Workshops are for complete beginners, so you won’t be embarrassed. It’s all part of the fun.

FUN FAIR
The Fun Fair is NOT free. Prices for different rides vary. Fun for kids of ALL ages.

KIDS SHOW & SHINE
In 2008 we introduced two new elements for children attending the show, the Kids Show & Shine, and the Bike Show & Shine. (Strictly speaking, the bike event is not restricted to just children, but there are separate awards for under 17s) FREE to enter.

KIDS1 SHOWSHINEBIKES1

SOME KINDS WORDS A PARENT WROTE ABOUT LAST YEAR’S SHOW
“Thank you. As a mum of four it was great to have ‘free’ stuff for the kids to do, it made a huge difference actually being able to say ‘yes you can have your face painted’ and ‘yes you can go on the bouncy castle’ . The whole event was superb.”

Santa Pod 2010 Dates

Posted by volkszone

Santa Pod Raceway, the home of European Drag Racing has just released its full 2010 calendar. In-keeping with previous seasons, Santa Pod offers something for everyone throughout the year, mixing classics, modified metal, bikes, music, fireworks and of course racing! Lots and lots of racing!!! Basically, if you enjoy a great day out, there’s bound to be something there you’ll love. Best of all, in these credit-crunching times, kids under the age of 16 get in for free at almost all of Santa Pod’s major events throughout the year, so taking the clan needn’t mean breaking the bank! Best of all, the ‘Pod team has frozen prices for all of its own events at the ’09 rate!

gary_page_EF09DJm podzillam

Show highlights include February’s Stunt Night on the 19th, where the cream of European automotive performers and artists wow the crowds. March the 21st sees the hugely popular Fast Show and the 11th of April offers the GTI Spring Festival, for those who like their cars loud, proud and quick! April’s Easter Thunderball (2nd – 5th) showcases the finest in European Drag Racing and the Big Bang Camper and Bus Show from the 23rd to the 25th is perfect for those who prefer their VWs old – and comfy!

Fans of all years of modded metal will love the PTM show on the 9th of May and there’s more stunt based japery abounds for the May Bank Holiday. In fact, May’s a busy month at the ‘Pod, as the host venue for the FIA European Drag Racing Championships between the 28th and 31st. If you want to see just how fast cars and bikes can really cover the quarter mile, get a ticket, quick!

June sees the Summer Nationals on the 19th and 20th for quarter mile fans to get their fix and also hosts the UK Truck Show, – both being a cracking family weekend away. July sees Japshow on the 4th and of course, the legendary Bug Jam , now in its 24th year, between the 23rd and 25th .

VWBusesBJ06DJm Tradersbj06djm

August brings the unstoppable party that is Ultimate Street Car between the 6th and 8th whilst September hosts classic VWs once again for VW Action on the 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Drag fans will also love September’s National Finals between the 9th and 11th, and Jap fans who didn’t get enough in June can visit the Japshow finale on the 3rd of October. Finally the year ends in a bang with the eyeful that is Flame and Thunder on the 30th of October and the Fireworks Frenzy on Bonfire Night.

Of course, in between these massive events lie a plethora of ‘Run What You Brung’ and ‘Drift What You Brung’ days where petrol-heads can thrash the living daylights out of their own car in total safety, without falling foul of the law. In addition, there are literally dozens of marque-specific and club based events throughout the year to ensure that no matter what your church, there’s a Santa Pod event to suit.

With its central location, warm welcome and superb facilities, make sure you get to the Pod at least once in 2010. With the most eclectic mix of events in the UK scene, it’s hard not to find something you love! See you there!

RUSS FELLOWS RUNS 9.34 AT 150MPH! IN A FLOORPAN’D BUG

Posted by volkszone

VETERAN VWDRC RACER KEEPS RAISING THE BAR

On 10th September 2009, longtime VWDRC Racer, Russ Fellows ran the Santa Pod quarter mile in 9.34 seconds at a crazy 150mph in his ‘street legal’, floorpan’d Bug at the Euro Finals.

RUSS FELLOWS' 9-SECOND 'STREET LEGAL' BUG

RUSS FELLOWS' 9-SECOND 'STREET LEGAL' BUG

Russ had just ran the quarter in 9.36 seconds the weekend before at the very popular VW Action event, also at Santa Pod. This undoubtedly makes him the quickest man in the UK in a full-bodied, floorpan’d VW.

Russ started Drag Racing his Bug back in the the early nineties in the old VWDRC ‘Street’ class and steadily progressed through ‘Super Street’ to ‘Modified’ winning many class championships along the way. When the VWDRC classes were re-structured Russ moved into VW Pro, where he still regularly competes.

VW Action also saw Russ inducted into both the VW Action 9-second Speed Club and the VW Action Hall Of Fame – where ‘movers and shakers’ from within the VW Scene are rewarded for their efforts with a VW Action ‘Oscar’. Never was there a more deserving case, Russ’s long term to commitment to ‘going quicker’ sets a wonderful example to all would-be racers.

BURROWS RETIRES

VW Action also saw the last ever run up the dragstrip from another veteran VWDRC Racer, Brian Burrows. Brian has retired from drag racing and decided to bow out in style, whilst realising one of his all time ambitions – a launch in a Fuel Funny Car. The car in question belongs to the Shockwave team, who allowed Brian to rent a ride in the car during the night racing session at the VW Action event on Saturday 5th September. Both Santa Pod race directors, Darren Prentice and Ian Marshall were very complimentary about Brian’s burnout, stage and launch which certainly didn’t look like it was his first ever (and only) drive of a Fuel Flopper.

Brian has campaigned many different VWs in the VWDRC Race Series over the years – including winning a championship in the UK’s first ever New Beetle and more recently racing a gorgeous 1957 Oval Bug. His Outrage II VW Funny car still holds the world record for VW AF/C – set way back in 1993.

OUTRAGE!!

OUTRAGE!!

We at Volkszone would like to wish Brian a long and happy retirement and congratulate Russ on his amazing achievement(s). Way to go fellahs!

CHOP SHOP/MARTIN KEMP ‘GANGSTER’ CAR TO DIE AT VW ACTION

Posted by volkszone

SANTA POD’S ‘PODZILLA’ MONSTER TRUCK TO FLATTEN ‘CHOP SHOP’ ABOMINATION

A huge amount of support from the UK’s custom and modified vehicle community has been received by the organisers of VW Action, an annual VW Festival, who have come up with a unique way of raising funds for a teenage cancer charity. They plan to ‘feed’ a ‘custom’ car to the Podzilla Monster Truck. The discovery channel ‘Chop Shop’ programme has come in for a fair amount of criticism regarding their claim to ‘turn bangers into blingers’. One of their creations, a ‘Gangster Car’ built for actor Martin Kemp, has been acquired by VW Action to be the star ‘victim’ during the Monster Truck Display at the show.

SANTA POD'S 'PODZILLA' MONSTER TRUCK

Before the vehicle is dispatched by Podzilla, visitors to the VW festival will be able to write a send off message, or even whack it with a baseball bat, in exchange for a suitable donation to ‘Brad’s Cancer Foundation’, a specialist teenage cancer charity. Having been displayed at a couple of events earlier this year, well over £500 has already been raised.

GANGSTER CAR ABOMINATION BUILT FOR MARTIN KEMP BY TV'S 'CHOP SHOP'

NAS Events’ Brett Hawksbee is very keen to ensure that everyone understands the purpose of the exercise

“I am honestly appalled that this and other grotesque creations from Chop Shop may have been viewed as representing the standards of the UK’s modified vehicle community. Quite apart from any aesthetic considerations, if the ‘powers that be’ were misled into thinking that ‘Chop Shop’ methods are how most of us go about modifying vehicles we’d be legislated against faster than you can say ‘Leepu Awlia’ (The programmes resident ‘designer’) The programme in my view paints us all in a bad light. Before we feed the car to Podzilla though, we will remove and recycled the viable parts. It’s not about wanton destruction, it’s about responsible, safe vehicle modification”.

VW Action takes place on 4th – 6th September 2009 at Santa Pod Raceway.

Every year we hear from people who have brought ‘non VW enthusiast’ friends as new visitors, who have been instantly converted to the cause. The fact that they are so readily accepted by everyone is testament to just how friendly and inclusive the VW community is. Action is as much about the friendliness and hospitality of other show-goers as the quality of the show itself. In our view there is not a more entertaining and enjoyable VW Show in the world. VW Action can be a weekend camped amongst like-minded enthusiasts, sitting, chilling, and meeting new friends, or a fully involved, participative fun fest!
