Fellow VW owners. Please click on the reviews below before talking insurance out with Lancaster. You can decide for yourself then if you want them to have your money.

I must say having been completely screwed by Lancaster insurance this last week I'm unable to recommend.

After taking out a policy and having had the car just less than 2 months they slapped a 70 cancelation fee plus a 15 broker cancelation fee. The car died so it was sold for spares.

The policy for the full year cost 250 and I ended up paying 152 to cancel. Plus the 50 odd quid deposit and first months instalment I'd already paid. Lancaster took almost the full amount of 12 months cover from me. They provided around 6 weeks insurance. But cancel and you pretty much pay for the whole year anyway!

I've used many classic insurance companies over the years but never been penalised so heavily for cancelling my policy.

Flux or RH are much better to deal with.

EDIT: To make things worse I continue to get texts telling me to contact the office urgently to make a payment! I'VE PAID YOU - YOU FOOLS!!

Hi Karmannghia,

Sorry to hear that you’ve had a bad experience when cancelling your policy with Lancaster.

If you could PM me your contact details, I’d be happy to chat through the cancellation with you and go through any questions you may have.

Kind regards

Andrew

Hi why have underwriters suddenly decided that if you are under 21 you can't insure a classic vehicle as a 2nd vehicle? Thanks in advance for your answer

Jacosmotor 06-11-2015 11:24 PM

Hi, I have an import but your web site doesn't quote for these vehicles but probably 70per cent of VWs are imports

ravenscraig2 07-11-2015 02:19 AM

I've dealt with Lancaster on and off the last 6 years, great service, normal people in the call centre, actually in this country, I recommend them 100%

Gal 07-11-2015 03:12 AM

They are based in St.Ives Cambs I believe

Hi RuSt66,

Thank you for your post and you have raised a very good point. This is a question that has been asked for quite some time now, as to why it is so difficult for young drivers to obtain a quotation for a classic vehicle.

There are a number of policies on the market that will cater for under-21 year olds on classic cars, so it may be more about managing expectations on price and benefits. Young male drivers are statistically in one of the highest risk categories for claims in the UK and this can make insurers more cautious when offering specialist products.

At Lancaster we look at young driver, classic policies, on an individual basis so please feel free to call our quoteline on 01480 587020 and one of our agents will be happy to go through a quotation with you.

I hope the above is helpful to you

Best wishes

Andrew

Hi Jacosmotor,

Thank you for your post.

The question regarding whether your vehicle is an import is a standard eligibility question that is asked for all quotations, however, Lancaster does specialise in imported vehicles so this should not be a problem.

Please do call our contact centre on 01480 587020 and one of our staff will be happy to assist you.

Best wishes

Andrew

Hi Ravenscraig2,

Thank you for your post and glad to see that you are happy with our service and as Gal quite rightly states we are based in St.Ives, Cambridgeshire.

Thank you once again for your continued support.

Hope to see you at the NEC this weekend.

Best wishes

Andrew

AVOID AT ALL COST!!

Now I don't want to sound like a bitter ex customer trying to destroy a company's reputation so I will keep this short.
I took out fully comprehensive insurance on my beloved splitscreen camper with Lancaster Insurance in October and 150 for the year seemed quite reasonable.
I disclosed the value as 20k and asked for the agreed valuation forms.

I filled out the forms and sent them away, they came back a short while later with an agreed value of 25k. I never thought much of this until I received my termination of insurance letter by post and email. I called Lancaster Insurance to find out why this had been sent and they explained they would now like the camper garaged.....As I could not build a garage in the week or so time scale they gave me they said they had no option but to cancel my policy. I asked could I have the original value of 20k and stay with them but they refused. They said a refund would follow .... I waited about a month then rang up they explained I had about 4 something due back but they don't issue refunds so small!! I asked for the break down and they claim due to cancellation charges no refund is due.

So to sum up 150 for 3 months insurance on a camper parked up not being used for winter is NOT value for money. Once more being a committee member of a VW club with over 100 members in the NW
I will ensure I spread the word of Lancaster Insurances excellent customer service.

Sounds similar to what they did to me. 6 weeks insurance only but I had to pay full cost. I've also informed fellow club members and friends to avoid.

Total rip off cancelation charges.

If it helps I've switched to RH who are very helpful. I'd been with them for years but only switched to Lancaster as they were cheaper - for a reason.

These reviews of Lancaster make very interesting reading.

Hi Berti,

It was good to catch this morning and I'm pleased that we were able to discuss this issue and reach an amicable solution.

I hope that we will be able to quote you again in the future.

Best wishes

Andrew
