Part to full time vacancy opening up in a few months.

I will need someone experienced in all aspects of air cooled VWs. (other vehicle experience would be a bonus)

The position will be part time to start with, hours to suit both sides, we cover everything from changing spark plugs to building full race cars (VW and non VW) with some non vehicle related fabrication thrown in when the yocals require it. :)

Attitude is far more important than qualifications and training will be given on the job where necassery.

Would prefer someone interested in racing as could involve working on our own race vehicles and crewing at race meets.

automanics 15-11-2008 08:02 PM

I would imagine it's a good 2 - 2 1/2 hours from Manchester to here, bit far to commute. :)

haddock_n_chips 17-11-2008 11:49 AM

Wow i'd love a job like this! Unfortunately i only have limited knowledge of cars at the mo but im looking at getting a qualification in vehicle maintenance. Any advice? I was looking at apprenticeships but im 26 and most places wont take anyone over 24 :incheek:

I owned a beetle for a few years so had to learn pretty quick how to fix a few thing and me current rocco is keeping me on my toes too! there is always something to fix! Hopefully one day i will have enough knowledge to whip out the old 8v engine and whack in the 16v it deserves!

woody 18-11-2008 02:33 AM

;)

automanics 18-11-2008 11:02 AM

I need someone with experience really, already got one guy here being trained, need someone who can get on with the basics at least without too much supervision. :)

The more time i have to spend training/supervising staff the longer it'll be before you get your big beasty back! ;)

engine and box in and sourced loads of little bits like wiring, lights, dropped spindles, tyres.cables, fuel tank and sender, voltage dropper and fuel gauge.but it was only the minor bits..a lot of it was already done in the states...

automanics 30-11-2008 08:31 PM

The gearbox fitment was one of the things i had to put right, i don't think you're what i'm after. :)

panelvan_77 12-12-2008 10:45 PM

Hi there, is this post still available? I am a 35 year old vehicle technician, trained to ONC and HNC level. Apprenticeship served at Merc main dealer, moved to car supermarket to gain knowledge of other marques. Moved to a classic race prep/restoration business mainly Jaguar but other marques from time to time. I have lived on the Isle of Man for the last five years. Two of those still with the classic racing and the last three with a company specialising in performance cars on the island, giving me experience with Porsche, old and new, some Ferrari light maintenance, and the ubiquitous Scooby,Evo,Cossie crowd.
I have been in the VW scene since 1992 have owned three Beetles and a Bay. I have always looked after a few of the club members cars aswell. I have now moved back from the island and reside temporarily with my folks in Stoke on Trent. I am single and do not own a property so relocation is not a problem. I will be available from Christmas.
Thanks for reading,
Gary

Hi there, I know you said you've sorted someone, but thought i'd put my name forward anyway.
I live in Hull, so travelling would not be a problem. I've been working for a year for a VW and classic car workshop based in Hull, but the credit crunch reared it's ugly head. I've been into dubs for about 12 years. At my last job I was a bodywork/fabrication/welding bloke but have a good knowledge of most other work to do with VWs and anything I don't know I want to learn. At the job before that I worked on the chassis for Ginetta race cars.
I built a volksrod from the ground up early last year and this gave me the drive to make a career out of it. I love fab work and coming up with solutions to fabrication problems.
Anyway, I think I've waffled on enough :D Good luck with your new employee, I just couldn't not put my 2p worth in too.
Cheers
