Geotechnical Drillers

We are looking for candidates who have experience of marine heave compensated drilling techniques, together with a fundamental understanding of weather, swell and tide implications for the drilling process.



As a Geotechnical Driller you will install and operate drilling equipment at drill sites, both on permanent and vessel of opportunity drill platforms. You will operate the drilling equipment, whilst maintaining clear lines of communication with the Drill Supervisor and downhole operators for the efficient and safe advancement and recovery of the borehole and PCPT and sample equipment.



You will also monitor mechanical systems in operation, and on instruction adjust components as necessary to ensure efficient and safe running. You will also be responsible for mobilising and installing drilling machinery and equipment using workshop and site power and hand tools with reference to oral and written work instructions.



Further duties will include the installation of drill derricks, drill floors, hoisting cables, hydraulic components, mud pumps, air banks, transmissions, diesel engines and other equipment on permanent and vessel of opportunity drill platforms.



As well as set up and operation of equipment, you will be required to disassemble engines and mechanical units, using hand and power wrenches and other hand tools. You will be required to supervise and assist in the maintenance processes and make suitable records of the work carried out.



As an individual, you will have the ability to communicate effectively and contribute to the team with your attitude, skills and experience. You will also have a high regard for Health & Safety and its practical application in the workplace. Flexibility and adaptability are also important, as you will be expected to travel to offshore vessels in globally at short notice.



Rig Mechanic

Reporting to the Geotechnical Drilling Supervisor, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of offshore heave compensated drilling equipment. This includes running a planned maintenance system, making sure that there are adequate stocks of equipment and parts required for the maintenance system and breakdowns, as well as ensuring that all equipment including lifting and safety equipment is certified and fit for purpose.



You will report any mechanical or maintenance issues to your line manager, along with any safety concerns that may exist in the working environment. You will be expected to work with the designated HSE Advisor to ensure that issues are resolved in line with the companyís high regard for safety and its procedures. It is vital that safety is at the forefront of any work you approach and carry out.



Your contribution to the effective running of projects, the communication of information throughout the department and the positive support to colleagues in your team is vital. You will be required to undertake necessary training and medical testing in accordance with company policies.



The ideal candidate will have relevant industry and offshore experience, be working knowledge of maintaining diesel engines and hydraulic power packs. Experience of working with heave compensated drilling equipment would be beneficial, as would experience with Geotechnical wire line sampling tools and pneumatic control and compressors.



You will be flexible to travel to offshore vessels globally at short notice, adaptable in an ever-changing environment and be able to build constructive relationships with a wide variety of people, as well as contributing to problem-solving and team performance.



Finance Manager

The ideal candidate will be required to perform the monthly review of the subsidiary financial reports and using these to compile the monthly group accounts, finance report and cash flows. With the information gathered, you will provide support to the subsidiary companies as required, helping them improve performance, systems and controls.

You will be responsible for the preparation of the monthly report to the bank and under the direction of the Group Finance Director, ensuring the group banking covenants with regards to reporting are adhered to.

Not only will you be responsible for co-ordinating and project managing of the Group Quarterly and annual corporation tax submissions, but also the group audit. Both these functions will require both internal and external liaison with relevant colleagues, managers, auditors and Her Majestyís Revenue & Customs.

Full involvement in the Groupís business and company acquisition and sale processes is another varied and interesting part of the role, as well as the co-ordination of Group contracts for vehicle purchase, credit ratings, and other suppliers as required. You will also carry out audits of the financial controls and systems within the group and associated projects as required

We believe that the ideal candidate will have at least 3 years post-qualification experience, preferably at a senior accounting level. You will have experience of effectively and professionally dealing with a wide range of staff and clients, including departmental managers and directors. Proven experience of working in a varied and challenging role in a fast moving environment, along with the experience of bringing change into an organisation would also be extremely advantageous.

You will be a CCAB qualified accountant, have membership of a relevant professional body and preferably experience in tax and business advisory roles in an international business. An MBA or similar management qualification would also be beneficial. You will be confident, resourceful, have strong IT skills and a positive approach to queries and their resolution.

This role is based in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, but some international travel may be required.




Pysical Oceanographer

This role covers a wide variety of tasks, from project start-up to final report delivery. Your main responsibilities will be;

∑ To perform deployment and recovery of oceanographic equipment, both from Gardline and client/charter vessels

∑ To assist with maintenance of a wide variety of instrumentation

∑ To analyse, process and interpret oceanographic data

∑ To produce written reports to a high standard

∑ Communicate information with a variety of internal and external departments, suppliers and customers

You must be flexible in attitude and skills and able to work both as part of the main survey crew, or independently on a third party vessel. Some projects working alone overseas will require a high level of self-reliance and confidence, so your ability to find solutions and seek advice is critical.

The ideal candidate will hold a relevant qualification in oceanography or closely related discipline and possess excellent IT skills and an understanding for the technical aspects of the equipment and data collection. The position will typically involve around 60 days offshore per annum.

Candidates MUST be eligible to live and work in the UK and be prepared to relocate to the Norfolk area if not currently in the region.

Geotechnical equipment operator

You will be responsible for the preparation, set-up, testing and maintenance of the Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) tools and equipment used to acquire geotechnical data offshore. You will have experience in an electro-mechanical role as well as confidence using IT systems and computer software. These skills and experience will help you with the acquisition and initial processing of high quality geotechnical data to support the Geotechnical Engineers. You will also assist them with the collation of relevant paperwork and reports.

You will be involved at all stages, from mobilisations to operation and recovery, working closely with the Offshore Project Manager and Geotechnical Engineers to ensure that the correct equipment is prepared and that it is moved, stored and operated safely to all HSE procedures and guidelines.

Ideally, we are looking for individuals with offshore experience using CPT equipment such as Wison, Roson and Datem Rigs. To be considered for a trainee role, you will need some kind of electro-mechanical knowledge and experience. In general candidates must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of mechanical and/or electronic engineering, relevant qualifications would be an advantage.

All candidates must be positive, confident and keen to develop a reputation as a team player in a seagoing role, assisting both the geotechnical sampling and drilling teams as required offshore


Seagoing Geophysical Engineer

We are seeking to recruit seagoing geophysical engineers to support the hydrographic and geophysical survey teams. You will be responsible for deploying, recovering, maintaining, repairing and replacing equipment and parts as required. Ideally, you will have strong electronics experience and/or qualifications and have worked in a busy team environment. This is a seagoing role, so experience of working at sea on vessels will be advantageous, but not essential.

The engineering team provide around the clock support and are expected to maintain a constant service in shifts to data acquisition operations. The team is led at sea by an appointed Engineer In Charge on a designed shift pattern and supported by technical advisors in the office.

We are seeking individuals that will be adaptable, positive and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. You will need to be someone who contributes to the team, both practically and thoughtfully when solving problems and is able to respond to instructions.

With the full seagoing role you will be expected to work at sea for a minimum of 180 days per calendar year in flexible rotations from 4 to 8 weeks. You may be posted anywhere in the world where Gardline vessels operate on a variety of projects for a variety of companies.

We are able to offer some entry-level roles to candidates who have not worked in this role previously, but individuals must have relevant transferable skills and experience. This would include a background or experience in electronics, mechanical engineering or a scientific discipline and possess enthusiasm, initiative and drive. The roles at this level would be based in Great Yarmouth and involve classroom, workshop and training at sea before becoming a full seagoing position.

You will also be required to pass appropriate medical and survival course upon joining us. You will also complete a training course covering the theories and methods of geophysical engineering and geophysical data acquisition. You will also have the opportunity to begin developing expertise in the maintenance and repair of all survey equipment.



Vessel Superintendents

The Marine Department, which is responsible for the maintenance, care and overall operations of our fleet of survey vessels, has opportunities for persons who are established within this or a similar role.

The position is based at our head office in Great Yarmouth but you will be required to visit vessels as part of your managerial role on a worldwide scale, to promote communication and inter-department as well as inter-company relations relating to the effective running of our vessels. This will involve travel and some working away, coordinating projects.

We would welcome applicants with recent experience within the marine industry, either in a seagoing role or shore-based position where they are or were involved with ships’ maintenance, repair and dry-docking. We would certainly consider those who have gained experience working in shipyards within manufacture or repair, and previous experience of overseeing vessel conversions and refits. Any supervisory, management and project planning experience within any of the above areas would be an advantage.

The ideal candidate will possess a Chief Engineer or Deck Engineer Certificate of Competency or equivalent qualification and be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of vessel operational requirements including, but not limited to, ISM, Classification Society Regulations and Flag State requirements, SOLAS and MARPOL.

You will have a proven track record demonstrating commercial awareness and judgement in ship management in an international arena. We are looking for a dynamic individual with team spirit and a determination to get the job done. Confidence and the ability to communicate appropriately to the many different persons and work with those involved on our projects are also key attributes to bring to this role


Geophysical Assistant

You will be responsible for the loading and administration of geophysical data on the network along with the preparation of projects ready for use by Geophysicists. In order to deliver this support you will also assemble and distribute information on future jobs using a GIS package and ensuring that electronic data is readied for dispatch. Organisation and archiving of project folders on the system is also required whilst organising and maintaining various databases, along with ensuring dispatch to and from the vessels.

The ideal candidate will be qualified to ‘A’ Level (or equivalent) standard and looking to develop their knowledge in the area of Geoscience as long term there will be opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and experience within the offshore survey industry. You will also be familiar with IT and general Office based packages with the ability to demonstrate further knowledge of software such as Surfer and GIS packages. The ability to demonstrate good scientific reporting skills, combined with an interest in earth sciences and excellent organisational skills would be a distinct advantage.

This job will involve a great deal of information gathering and teamwork, so you must also be an effective communicator at all levels. Your responsibilities will include working within a specialised scientific team who are focussed on delivering a high quality, detailed interpretation report to our customers to strict deadlines.

Senior Surveyor

To undertake surveying duties on one of Gardline’s fleet survey vessels or on a third party vessel if required. Supporting the Party Chief onboard during survey operations and ensuring ongoing development of staff.

You will be responsible for all positioning activities and acquisition of bathymetric data, preliminary data processing and compilation of report, preparation of data for secure transfer to office as well as the supervision of junior surveying staff and liaising with other technical disciplines at sea.

Ideally you will have between three and five years experience of similar work and hold a recognised BSc degree or post graduate qualification in a surveying related discipline. A comprehensive understanding of theoretical background to sea surveying is required along with the ability to check and take responsibility for all positioning and bathymetric data at sea. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to coordinate the activities of other staff at sea and to assist in the management of field projects. The ability to work within a team and to mix with people from a wide variety of backgrounds is essential.

Trainee Geophysical Engineer

The graduate training programme will last 2 years where you will learn all aspects of the geophysical engineering department including but not limited to:

The theories and methods of geophysical engineering and geophysical data acquisition.

Developing expertise in the operation, maintenance and repair of all survey equipment.

Becoming proficient in the operational management of 110 seagoing engineers on 11 vessels.

Becoming competent in solving problems on the vessels via telephone and email Working at sea as a geophysical engineer.

Developing the management skills required to lead a team and manage seagoing staff.

Be involved in the logistical planning required to deliver the equipment to the vessels on time and within budget.

Mobilise the vessels for a new role again on time and within budget.

You will be predominantly based in the head office in Great Yarmouth for approximately the first 2 years of your training. During your training, to further your experiences of working as a member of the engineering team you would be expected to work on any of our vessels whilst they are conducting offshore surveys. You will be expected to complete between 60 and 100 days at sea per year, split into several trips, in a variety of locations around the world.

No previous experience is necessary, but the ideal candidate should be of degree calibre in an engineering, scientific, numerate or business discipline and possess enthusiasm, initiative and drive.

Medical and Survival certificates as well as the provision of accommodation will be organised for you during the initial period of your training. You will be expected to relocate to the Great Yarmouth area for this role.



Reporting Administrator

Gardline Geosciences Limited is looking for an experienced geotechnical Administrator to play a fundamental role, providing a comprehensive administrative service, assisting and supporting the Geotechnical Reporting Team.

You will be required to provide efficient administrative support including activities such as printing and binding reports, filing, maintaining records and updating spreadsheets and competently managing the processing of purchase orders and preparing invoices for approval.

The successful candidate must possess previous relevant experience in an office environment, ideally in a similar industry together with excellent Microsoft Office skills, especially MS Excel and a valid driving licence. An Administration qualification would be advantageous.

We are looking for a team player, who is attentive to detail, communicates effectively and appropriately and enjoys working in a progressive and evolving environment of industries and roles.



Assistant Management Accountant

The Accounts & Finance team at Gardline provides a wide variety of services to a large number of Group Companies and subsidiaries.

The main duties for this role include assisting the Management Accountant with monthly and annual management accounts, balance sheet reconciliation, preparation and assistance with consolidated accounts along with any ad-hoc accounting duties.

The ideal candidate will be actively studying for a recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA) or be AAT qualified. You will have experience of effectively and professionally dealing with a wide range of staff and clients, including departmental managers and directors. Proven experience of working in a varied and challenging role in a fast moving environment would also be extremely advantageous.

That all depends vwbeetle, they are alwyas after folk who have a broad skill set. They rarely recruit specifically for a tradesman like that, but if you are a coded welder then they would definately have a use for you, depending on what sort of work you would take and your location. If you plumb for an offshore position, then your role will be multi-purpose anyway and welding will be something you won't do too often. However, the very fact that you can weld means that you already have a good skill set which can be built upon, which is something which would put you in good stead for a job should you apply.

well, as for the skills i have on paperwork i have an nvq 2 in fabrication and welding and a 3268 certificate, and i finish my level 3 in june. not too sure if it would apply but i also have a level 2 in motor vehicle repair and maintenance, which i suppose can apply to working on any machinery.
basically i can put my mind to anything as im a hands on mechanical type of person.
