I decided to start a moped thread as the electric bicycle thread seems to be getting bogged down with mopeds.

So here we go,
there seems to be a very healthy interest in mopeds so I'll kick this thread off with a few I have owned in the past and were bought for what I considered to be sensible money at the time.

I've had quite of few of the Honda 50cc mopeds over the years and rather a lot of Monkey Bikes but that is a whole new thread
these are probably the best two pedal versions I have had

these two Hondas came from the same family.
the blue one was an exercise in spending a small fortune on NOS parts and I shudder to think of the total spend was
I think it should have had white mudguards to be 100% correct but the blue ones were NOS and it didn't bother me too much
another one I should have kept

good call.

i'm guilty as charged on side tracking the other thread, although it's a bit of a toss up as to which route (petrol or electric) glen should go. i'm trying to keep him on the dark side of fossil fuels!

i need to sort out a picture hosting account and i'll show you my moped hall of shame fame :D

yup, never seen one of those before

cheers, I wasn't sure about starting a new thread

I think it makes sense if a few more guys join in :)
definitely, the more the merrier! :D

not really a moped in the true sense but this came from the same guy who I bought the Scamp off
a Hiawatha Doodlebug more of a weird small scooter / bike

not seen that before either. it's good to see unusual stuff. the trouble is all the unusual stuff seems to go for silly money these days.

I have managed to make a couple of ebay purchases

Are they PC50's ? My first bike was a PC50...I paid £2.50 for it in about 1986...

When I was living in Cambodia my girlfriend really, really wanted a moped (or scooter as they call them there) in this style. Unfortunately all we could afford was a Honda Wave which is a good machine but no where near as nice to look at.

here's some pictures of my current mopeds..

nothing exotic or particularly exciting, but they were cheap! :D

bought this for my girlfriend to scoot about on, but she chickened out so it's in my garage awaiting a top end rebuild.

this is my daily, it's proved to be very reliable and great value.

picked this up locally for £40. i'm currently trying to search out a doner bike so that i can bring it back to life.

My ears are burning! :D

Is this where all the cool kids with mums that let them have mopeds hang out?

As we know, I’m currently havering as to which way to jump. Had a few ‘peds, several Maxis, a C100 Honda, several C50s and 90s, an SS50, an old Peugeot 102 to name a few.

Currently my retro tiddlers are a 1953 125cc D1 Bantam, and a 1956 150cc D3. The D1 is rideable, the D3 wants a bit of love. Plan is to rebuild a 175cc D14/4 engine I’ve had in the shed thirty years and fit it to the D3, then rebuild the D3 engine and put it into the D1. Hopefully it will make both bikes more useable without spoiling their charm.

those bsa's a lovely! i like your plan with the engine swaps, good luck with that. :)

I still have a few Jogle peds from the Team Off (SH50's) and three DT50mx's although only one is currently together the other two are more wall art.

I have however started collecting Mobocane bikes little 70's models X7 and X1's quite fun little things. I also have a Garelli Katia which is an early model with spoked wheels, I found this in an old boys garage while pulling out a car (for a mate) it's a one owner model and only needed minor work to get working again.

The Green x7 I found on here and well it was green so I had to have it, that then sparked an interest in these bikes and a trip to my local moped guy Aplins in Bristol further fuelled my curiosity in these and if anyone can I suggest you go to his shop as he has many rare and amazing mopeds!

Both my X1's have not been used since the early 80's, one was found on a large private estate in north west wales the other in London within a week of each other.

All of these bikes are now fully working (just awaiting new tyres for the x1's).
what's your plans the sh50's?

those motobecane's are quirky things, i often see them come up for sale and they always seem to make good money.

the garelli katia is another one i quite like, they've definitely got that retro look!

bri, your bikes always look so clean! :D

Thanks. :)

I will have owned the D1 for forty years in February.

I know it's not strictly a moped, but Honda UK have been teasing people on Facebook with pictures and videos of their C125 SuperCub concept. If they bring them to the UK market I'd have one in a heartbeat. I don't think I could run one into the ground on the commute though. :D

I'm with you on that one :) but I'll bet it will not be a UK bike :(

Oops, 2017? I must have forgotten my note. :)

Seing that I appear to have lost my mojo, where the bug and the T4 are concerned, I'm hoping that a small project might nudge me in the right direction. To that end, I've started collecting bits for 'refreshing' my Jogle C50.

A couple of years in a damp lock-up means it doesn't look quite as tidy as in that photo. I don't want to do a full on restoration* as I want to be able to ride it, but I think it could do with a repaint.

I went to it yesterday, and old petrol, teamed with a dodgy kickstart lever meant an awful lot of pushing to get it running again. It didn't do my heart rate or blood pressure any good at all, I thought I was going to pass out at one point.

*Just watch the list of new parts start to grow...:D

(I'm posting this via Tapatalk in the hope the photos will be viewable seeing as my Photobucket account no longer works)

I've always had a hankering for the Honda Dream 50, but they are sooooo expensive.

I've always liked the Honda Motocompo that was made between 1981 and 1983. They too are becoming damn expensive.

Honda did unveil an electric version in 2011 at the Tokyo motor show.

I'm still working on these 3 Honda Chaly's for my brother and may well have enough spares for a 4th if I can find some complete forks.

But my brother has implied he may give me a Di-Blasi when I finish them

I've still got my Honda C50 from JOGLE but can't tax it thanks to a so called specialist at the Honda Owners Club informing DVLA that Honda never import a frame into the UK without it having a frame number stamped on it. Mine has no number and never has had in my ownership (and I'm the 2nd owner). I believe the previous owner had an accident and it was reframed a long time before I purchased it but the garage who did the work forgot to stamp it.

One of my local independent bike shops has one in their window. It certainly looks nice. Not sure what the fit and finish quality is like, or the spares backup, but it's certainly an inexpensive second bike or toy.

My 1971 Honda PF50.

Purchased a while ago to restore with my 15 year old son.

In typical Honda fashion with fresh fuel and replacement points it fired up easily.

Since had a first size rebore and DIY head cleaning job.

Looks tatty but is mechanically spot on and starts so easy.

Hoping the registration number might be worth something to a classic Porsche owner one day.

In the meantime it has been used to collect the odd takeaway.

MPG can only be described as ridiculous ;)
