This bus has been in the country many years after being shipped over from Malaysia.

Sadly it’s had a hit and all panels have had work done, all hand made and then filler... lots of filler oh so much filler.

With this known a large order of Klassicfab panels have been ordered.

With the amount of damage and poor repairs to the vehicle, the decision is made to start again!

Luckily we are experienced in this area of chassis building and splitscreen restoration so off come’s the upper shell.

Will be watching this one with interest. Seems that over the past ten years, the level of detail people are going to, in order to restore van's has ramped up to a whole new level! Who say's you can't do a 'body off' on a type 2

So moving on with the restoration and we need to make more panels and sections to repair the poorly repaired cargo top floor area (bulkhead fuel tank area).

First up we had to make a pair of dies for our Pels machine (pullmax type) then after this was complete do a few test runs before starting on the repair panels.

Some photos of the areas that need repair, yes the complete rear of the bus is off and upside down after being blasted.

Looks fantastic. Do you have pics of the machine your using to make the pressings?
Thanks very much.

The machine we have is a Pels it's like a pullmax, a huge Pac-Man looking monster that has an adjustable heavy duty hammer, by making a die you can make most panels, but you get into the realm metal art so you need to be able to shrink or stretch metal in certain points or areas for the pressing to work. Other machines like English wheels and shrunken/stretchers, folders and rollers are needed.

Here's a photo

So with the rolling made we start making the repair sections, the whole section has various bits replaced or patched so we need to make a few pieces.

And the bus still keeps giving, we removed a patch on the bulkhead to wheel area and found a huge amount of filler, this is inside the bus...
