Default PayPal scam

Had another scammer try it on last night. I have stuff for sale on gumtree, preloved and Shpock, this came from gumtree, “how much will you take for your item?”
Price agreed, “do you take PayPal?”
Yes, please send it to .........( insert my PayPal email)
“Payment sent, please let me know when it arrives”
Then I get a message on my phone, it’s a PayPal heading, saying payment received. I click on it and it’s saying the correct amount, but added underneath a statement I’d neve seen before, “ to claim this amount, you must link this account to your own or funds will be returned to the sender in 14 days”
I logged onto my iPad, got my PayPal up and there were no funds showing for this recent purchace,
Back to my phone, the PayPal link already had my email filled in, and a flashing cursor over the password, so I typed in fu**offyouscammingc**t.
Seconds later, the message was no longer on my phone, the PayPal email had gone?
No idea how that happened.
So beware, don’t use any links sent to you, log onto the site your using yourself, stay safe.

Good advice.
My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...

I thought it was going to be the old scam when they send you too much money and ask you to refund the difference which you do and then their payment bounces but naturally yours doesn't!
Scammers are everywhere at the minute.
After selling a car for a relative recently I'd two texts telling me that I was entitled to a car tax refund and had to claim by clicking on the link.
Had an official looking email that my TV license payment wasn't made.
I'm sure they catch a lot of people out.

The generic "What is the best price for your item?" text is normally a red flag!
"Well the name's Jim , but most people call me......................Jim."

Weird thing is, today, an email off the person, outraged that I’d called them a scamming c***.
I told them I don’t have their money in my PayPal account, there is no payments pending, no record of any transaction, but on my phone, it says I have funds?and therefore the PayPal sent by them was fake,
I told them to get PayPal involved or contact the police.
No response as of yet.
