Readers Rides Post pics, specs and build-up stories of your vehicles - or even your garages here. Also interesting stuff about your 'daily drivers' etc. or interesting cars you have seen on your travels, even motors-based TV shows you can recommend. Please, no 'For Sale' or 'Want To Buy' ads, plugs for your 'business', links to 'for sale' ads or Ebay links to your (or your mate's) auction (use the VZi 'Classifieds' section) - this also includes thinly veiled 'What's My Car Worth?' threads and "Who Can Sell Me A . . ." posts.

I then cut some sheet metal for these two areas and my dad welded them on for me. The image below is the piece for the section of inner wing where it meets the front clip. I managed to find some threaded bits of metal in my local hardware store to take the wing mounting bolts. They are similar to the original and were grafted into place. There was one missing on the o/s front and two missing from the o/s rear.

With the welding done and the threaded inserts fitted, it was all ground back smooth and protected.

My trusty helper then proceeded to de-crud and clean the inner wings....

All the spots of surface rust from stones being thrown up and water being held in the crud had to go so before I knew it ..............

Just as well, cos I couldn't be trusted with a grinder. After cleaning up the rust before welding, idiot brain (me) momentarily took his goggles off for a better look and got 5 metal shards in his eyes. After a sleepless night and severely aching eyes, I had a go at getting them out but no joy so off I trotted to the chemist for some optrex. The lady in the chemist ordered me to the doctors so off I sheepishly went. He told me I was silly which I already knew then sent me off to casualty for a few hours. Eventually after some blokey poked me in the eye for 30minutes, I was sent home (not before the nurse had made me lie down for a bit as I was now as white as a sheet and about to faint (arghhh...I really don't like hospitals!) Anyway, suffice to say, lesson learnt.

They're my dad's safety specs from about 30 years ago, lol. I obviously wasn't going to put up the one of me wearing them
