Chat/Discussion Kind of like a VW club online - you can sit in our virtual pub and talk about whatever you want to. All opinions are valid, but please no insulting (other than to our intelligence,) abusive or libellous posts. Please feel free to post your opinion on any given subject, but also be aware that others have the equal right to disagree with you - and some will certainly tell you so. No 'For Sale' or 'Want To Buy' ads, plugs for your business, links to 'for sale' ads or Ebay links to your (or your mate's) auction (please use the VZi 'Classifieds' section) - this also includes thinly veiled "What's my car worth?" threads too (please use the 'Dude! What's My Car Worth?' forum) - and please don't use just to post links to other VW forums or websites - we are aware that other sites exist (obviously), but blatant 'plugs' (poaching) will simply be deleted.

Default A question about seat belts on a 1968 vehicle and the mot.

If a car built in 1968 was not manufactured with seat belts and has never had them fitted since, does it need them to be installed in order to pass an mot?

I've had a look on the mot test guide website and all i could find was this...

Most vehicles after 1965 must have seat belts.

It's the word 'most' that has confused me. There is no information as to which vehicles are exempt from having seat belts.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

The mounts are there, I'd be very surprised if it's never had them.
Stick them in, you know it makes sense.

I've always thought the laws of physics are against not having a seatbelt.

I think the "most" is referring to things like tractors, fork-lift trucks and the like

As others have said, any car 1965 or newer needs seat belts fitted in the front.

Cool, thanks guys. Much appreciated! Do you reckon lap belts would suffice? Couldn't really have 3 point belts as there is no B pillar. The only other option would be some kind of race harness.

i did not think tractors and fork lifts had mos's

plus commercial vehicles did not require seat belts by law until a fair bit after 68
