Default WHO412H

Bit of a long shot this one as I have owned this bug since I was sixteen.....now thirty two! I also know who the previous two owners are but wonder if anyone knows any more.

She is a type 1 1500 in Clematine Orange with overiders but with a few extras added over the years. She was my daily but now she gets used for pleasure, heading for a driveway resto this summer.

Am I even close to the record for length of ownership?....does anyone else still drive their first car on a regular basis...?

Default Car was ours...

This car was bought from new for my Grandfather (replacing his Austin 1100) by my Dad in 1970.
Eventually Granddad gave up driving and he gave the car to us.
The car was one of 500?? special celebratory "June Beatles"?? (denoted by the particular shade of orange)
The old man always used to say it was the most financially sound car he ever bought as he paid 500 for it
in 1970 and sold it (same battery and tyres having spent nothing on it) in 1980 for the same amount.
WHO 412H moved us from Frimley Green to Bathealton in Somerset and many of my childhood memories involve
journeys in this car.
We had a bit of a bump with a neighbours Land Rover sometime during the late 70's resulting in a, quite significant, front end repair.
The only other accident involved a sheet of ice and a couple of 360 degree pirouettes ~ fortunately missing hedges and all other obstacles ~ eventually ending up oriented
and travelling in the original direction.

I've typed the plate into Google a few times over the years and it surprises me this post originates back to 2006 and I have never noticed it before.

Not this particular car, but this thread reminded me of one of these orange 1970 1500s that I knew of in the late 80s.

It also had the over-riders. The owner also told me it was one of a limited run.

If I recall correctly, it was a lighter orange than clementine; more of a yellow in it than a red.

Hi CptTurbo,

I have just googled the reg again and found your post!!!!

That is so good to have some history on my (your old) car!

I still have her tucked up in a garage but she has been off the road since 98 now but she will be getting a rebuild soon.. A Westy and a child slowed me up for a while.

Any more info you have would be much appreciated as I did not know about the June Edition info.

Regards Matt
