Default Multi skilled fabricator and apprentice fabricator 2 jobs Northamptonshire

Multi-skilled Fabricator welder automotive vehicle projects

10-18 per hour plus bonus, 40 hours per week

An ever changing role exists for someone who has a special and wide set of skills.
The company builds and modifies vehicles and manufactures composite parts (mainly GRP). In general, only one project or concept is run at a time and only 1 is produced but sometimes we will operate a small production run 5 to 50.

An experienced fabricator is required for both sheet metal and tube/box, working as part of a small multi skilled team. You will be the only dedicated fabricator, with support from 2 experienced fabricators who are in other departments now and we are looking to add an apprentice to the role under the succesful applicant.

The applicant will be required to work from both a design with drawings and from just an idea outline of what is required with no drawings. We expect the successful applicant to be able to work and apply their own initiative.
An ability to weld paper to water may be an advantage..

This role includes:
General

Taking standard road car components and modifying - usually by cutting, resizing and re-welding
Making race car spaceframe chassis and all components including suspension
Making jigs for the manufacture of short run fabricated parts
Removal of complete sections of cars (chassis and floorpan) and refitting to another body to make hybrid vehicles (I.e. Nissan Juke GTR the 600bhp skyline engined Juke)

Mig welding skills

Sheet metal fabrication
Rivet and glue assembly
Box and tube section forming including bending, chamfer and notching
Reverse engineering copying an existing or prototype item
Reading from drawings of varied quality and feedback issues
Redesign, modification and fresh ideas

TiG welding and aluminium experience would be an advantage but not required however you will be working with Aluminium honeycomb chassis (glued and riveted).

Additional

you will also need assit to strip out cars with the lead mechanic and assemble the parts you make back onto cars un assisted

cnc milling and turning - waterjet cutting are also carried out in house allowing for creativity and design challanges

You will be part of a small team and must be happy to appear on TV as we are being filmed for the next 5 years.

attendence at shows, race weekends (we compete) and media promotions also required outside of work hours, although not all the team need to attend evey event.

We are based in Northampton 5 miles from the M1 junction 19 M6/A14 interchange.
