Engineering Tech A Q & A Forum devoted to Engineering Issues that don't necessarily fall into Aircooled or Watercooled Tech. Got a problem? Or an engineering question? Even a buildings or property engineering question? Then ask in here. Please, no 'For Sale' or 'Want To Buy' ads, plugs for your 'business', links to 'for sale' ads or Ebay links to your (or your mate's) auction (use the VZi 'Classifieds' section) - this also includes thinly veiled 'What's My Car Worth?' threads and "Who Can Sell Me A . . ." posts.

Default Welding Zimmer frames?!!!

Please don't laugh, but our local dump has a seemingly endless and very cheap supply of Zimmer frames - an attractive source of pre-curved and straight aluminium tubing that would fit the bill for a project I'm considering. What I do not know, and cannot find out, is can this particular alloy be TIG-welded?

If I had to guess I would say that any al-alloy that can be bent is likely to be low strength, and most of these can be welded. Anybody know for sure?

Thanks in advance, Carl.

I suppose only word to note is its most likely going to be

A) super thin for its lightness
B) anodised, so will require alot of cleaning first.
