Welding gas

Hi, what welding gas are people use for a mig welder Iv found co2 or argon mix just wanted to know what people’s preferences are any advice would be great thanks

I’ve used both and prefer the argon mix,I think it’s 5% , it seems to weld cooler than co2 , I rent from boc on there hobby discount ( tell them your a member on here) it’s about a pound a week rent and around £50 for a refill

Argoshield light for the MIG, Pureshield for the TIG, both size Y bottles on the Volkszone deal with BOC.

They’re physically quite big bottles, but the deal is only available on that size and they work out a lot cheaper than the smaller options.

YMMV, and there are options with Hobbyweld and Adam’s Gas that have potentially lower on-costs but a much higher setup. Depends how much you’re going to need and where you are relative to your nearest stockists.

Depending on hw much welding you do, alternative to BOC deal is the yellow bottles of Hobbyweld.

If you're welding outside it's not worth the extra for argon/argoshield just run pure CO2. Inside I run Argoshield5.
