Chat/Discussion Kind of like a VW club online - you can sit in our virtual pub and talk about whatever you want to. All opinions are valid, but please no insulting (other than to our intelligence,) abusive or libellous posts. Please feel free to post your opinion on any given subject, but also be aware that others have the equal right to disagree with you - and some will certainly tell you so. No 'For Sale' or 'Want To Buy' ads, plugs for your business, links to 'for sale' ads or Ebay links to your (or your mate's) auction (please use the VZi 'Classifieds' section) - this also includes thinly veiled "What's my car worth?" threads too (please use the 'Dude! What's My Car Worth?' forum) - and please don't use just to post links to other VW forums or websites - we are aware that other sites exist (obviously), but blatant 'plugs' (poaching) will simply be deleted. |

I've been trying to buy a neighbours mk1 Golf GTi for the last few years. It's not moved in probably 8+ years. Owner won't sell as he's 'going to restore it'. It's just sat outside on his drive, open to all of the elements and becoming more and more covered in moss... He's not opened a door on it in all the time I've known it.
Prior to the GTi, he had a 71 beetle in the same spot on the drive that he was 'going to restore'. Didn't move for 15+ years then one day it wasn't there. Asked where it had gone... 'it was too far gone mate, scrapped it'.

There's an 85 Scirocco GTX lying a few miles from me, mate tried to buy it 11 or 12 years ago when it was tidy. Sat covered in moss now. The gent who owned it passed away and the family didn't want to sell which I could understand, but it's just sat out.
Neighbour had a 4door E30 a few years ago I tried to buy, was told it needed a clutch when he got round to it, had been sat over a year, few months later vanished along with the other cars in the driveway so I'd say scrapped!
I had a Polo lying for years, moved it around occassionally and had few boys call, it wound me up a bit in fairness, I did eventually get round to it though
Maybe if you have cash in hand so he knows you're serious. How many good cars have gone in that way, usually repeat offenders!!

I have offered to have a look over it with him and make a start on a list of obvious jobs on a couple of occasions, but he's not taking me up on it (whenever I've asked, he's 'too busy' at the mo). I don't even know if it runs any more. It's his car, and I'm not going to push him on it, but I'm fairly confident it'll sit there until it's scrapped which is a shame.
