VZi Small Business Forum Volkszone has many entrepreneurs, self-employed and those who run their own companies. Please use this forum to ask (and answer) any small business related questions - employment law, tax laws, insurance, marketing, council rates, etc. Please DO NOT use it to tout for business or to plug your own company (please use the Yellow Pages forum for this) - any blatant 'plug' posts will be deleted and the posters may be reprimanded further. This is the ONLY warning you will receive - the idea is to help each others' businesses, not to take advantage - so please play nice.

I used to have my own cafe - Bought most of my equipment from an auction in one hit from a cafe that had gone bust - full hobart gas range and oven, griddle and deep fryer. Then scoured ebay about got a decent espresso machine for 900 refurbished and a slush machine for about 600.

Brand new with warranty is great if you have guaranteed custom and turnover - but you can set up for so much less than the brand new price if you're trying to do it on a budget. The last kitchen I worked in bought everything brand new from Nisbets and it was so easy - but they had deep pockets and an already established business with a good turnover.

The mark up on slush makes those machines worth their weight in gold though - mine paid itself off in about a month! Same with the coffee machine.
