SWB Drag Buggy
I've been toying with selling this for a while (and had a half-hearted go before), but as multiple family illness has prevented me using it at all this year, I think it has to go.
The UK’s quickest SWB buggy: mid 13s on a mild 1776 and well into the 11s on its current 2110. Alternatively, large parts of it could be used to build a fast street buggy (it has no V5).
Chassis: Semi-spaceframe with 3mm wall box section cross braced base, new framehead, Ron Lummus Racing 2” solid raised gearbox mounts (low without negative camber), custom made chromed jointed steering column with quick-release wheel. CDS tubing roll cage bent by Chris Isaacs Racecars, tagged to MSA 10.50 seconds spec. Chassis stove enamelled in dark blue metalflake.
Suspension and brakes: Mint German front beam with adjusters, two sets of castor shims, dropped spindles, discs, brake bias valve, stainless braided lines. At the rear there are Sway Away 28mm torsion bars, Sway Away adjustable spring plates, built up flop stops, Cotsweld wheelie bars, all detailed in stove enamelling, Koni red shocks.
Interior: Bead-rolled and powder coated ali Dzus-mounted floor and panelling powder coated pearlescent white, made by Chris Isaacs Racecars. Hinged panel for fuelling and small matching dash panel. Kirkey ali seat with cover, window net, CNC staging brake with launch control, Berg 60% shifter, Autometer Monster Tach, oil pressure and temp gauges in chrome cups. Five point Sabelt harness with shoulder pads.
Body: GP Mark 1, bonnet now a lightweight GT one. Front wings modified to sit higher, allowing the car to sit extremely low. Body attached by Dzus fasteners. Restored and painted in Fiat Surf Azure. Signwritten by Pro Sign in gold leaf.
Wheels and tyres: polished genuine Centerlines, 3.5 inch fronts with new 135 Contis, 8.5 inch rears with M&H 275/60 DOT Racemaster drag radials (4 race meetings on them).
Gearbox: Type 1 race box built by Cogbox. Modified superbeetle mainshaft, chromoly shift forks, close ratio 3rd and 4th with welded hubs, superdiff, heavy duty side plate, Sway Away race axles in pre-62 short tubes.
Engine: 2110 built by Paul Miller. Chromoly counterweighted crank, lightened flywheel, H beam rods, Mahle forged barrels and pistons, MoFoCO heads 42X37.5mm valves, Berg oil pump and cover, straight cut cam gears. Garrett T3 turbo, Turbosmart blow off valve, Tial wastegate, chargecooler with ice tank and pump, VW Speedshop EFI with 42mm throttle bodies and Omex 600 ECU. Bosch 044 pump, Facet lift pump, swirl pot, Turbosmart pressure regulator, all braided lines and anodised fittings for fuel, oil and CSP breather, Mocal oil cooler.
Only 7 passes on motor since rebuild with new heads, rings and bearings. This is a well sorted, properly dialled in car with the event wins to prove it.
£10.5k complete, negotiable without engine and fuel system. That represents less than a quarter of what it has cost me to build.
PM me if interested but please note the reason for sale - please only contact me if serious.
(The pictures below pre-date the current engine and rear wheels, will try to find an up to date picture)
