Default 2.5" dr/sp + 5.5" Rivieras + 165 65 15, rub?

At present I have 195 45 15s which don't rub but look ridiculous I think. I hope 165 65 15s will not rub but before I spend time and money fitting them, has anyone else tried that combination with a standard beam?

I'm running 5.5 mag industry gt rims on 165/65/15 up front but on a 2 inch narrowed beam with dropped spindleso no rubbing issues.

Well I have bought a pair of partworn 165 65 15s cheaply enough to be worth the risk. I'll soon answer my own question!

I have a standard beam with drop spindles and rear down one spline and run 185x60 on 5.5x15 and it will only rub at the front when my fat mate gets it the front but only a little.

The 185 60 15s are nominally 8mm greater in diameter than the 165 65 15s I've bought and the 165 65s will be 20mm narrower across the tread so that suggests there's a good chance they won't rub. Thanks for that. I might get them on tomorrow if I'm not working and if I can persuade the 195 45s to come off! I've just got a 125 85 15 spacesaver temporary spare to go on a standard steel rim which will be OK at both ends.

Ok, I've fitted the 165 65 15s to the front now. I have 165 80 15s on the back. I've just given it a good blast up a country lane for a few miles. No problems over bumps and round corners but light rubbing under heavy braking on a bumpy road. It's not obvious where with the road being wet. When dry it should be. They look much better.

What offset are the rivieras? Would love a set on my bug but wondered it they'd fit with sensible tyres without a narrowed beam.

I think they are +17 and I'm going by this:

The above wheels are polished but I think they are the same castings as the wheels on mine which look like they might be from VW Heritage who don't state the offset.

I bought the car with the wheels on it so that's all I know!
