Default Is this the right paint?

Iím about to paint some repair work Iíve done on my beetle (a-post, inner arch, heater channel) and this is what the paint shop sold me - colour matched paint, 2k primer and high build. Have just spoken to them again and the guy says the paint is cellulose and assures me the 2k primers are compatible, wont react with whatís already on the car and I donít need an air fed mask - does that sound right?

seems a bit odd to have sold you a mix. i'd either use cellulose primer and cellulose topcoat, or 2k primer and 2k topcoat. (although personally i'd only ever want 2k topcoat on a car)

having googled those paints it does look like they'll probably work OK together.

as to using an air fed mask - yes you are supposed to use one for any isocyanate 2k paint, but many people do occasional painting with 2k in well ventilated areas with an appropriate A2 rated respirator. i use this one: https://www.screwfix.com/p/3m-7523-h...um-a2-p3/13251

I already have a can of Upol 8 etch primer, maybe I should use that and get some Upol 5 high build from Halfords?

Try and find the tech data sheet (TDS) for what you've been sold. TDS should say which paints it won't work with. If not then contact the manufacturer direct. Paint suppliers are normally pretty good with knowing the products they sell but many don't come from a bodywork background so rely on what the manufacturers salesman tells them.

TBH the whole 2K thing is making me feel uneasy, Iíd be much happier going down the Upol 8 & 5 route if itís going to get the job done.

So long as you can get the repair down to metal, any rust treating done, primed and topcoated in a day then you're all good
