Default Camping in the La Rochelle or Royan area - recommendations?

I want to holiday in the La Rochelle or Royan area in France in July in my EarlyBay

Can anyone recommend me a nice site? I would like a smallish site that is geared more to caravans and small camper vans as opposed to big white boxes and mobile homes. Beach location would be nice but I suspect that most of those sites are the more commercial ones.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

I thought about that as well and have received/read good reports from people who have stayed on the island. The only thing that put me off a bit is that access is via the bridge which I think you have to pay for on each crossing (16 euros each time) and apparently shops, food etc. is pricey. Not a problem if you are staying put once on the island but I like to venture out for the day and would want to visit places on the mainland so no good for me!

Apparently Île d’Oléron which is the other island is bigger, cheaper and does not have a toll bridge. I need to do some more reading!

Go to either Iles', go to La Rochelle but 'personally' I'd not bother (again) with Royan.

I've stayed on the municipal site on the outskirts of La Rochelle twice, and the location is brilliant as it's within walking distance of the main town.

A fair few 'travellers' though, but we didn't have any problems.
