As I understood it....Unless its a bit like one of those tales some random dude in the pub tells you, brilliant story ....but a load of balls!!
 VW sold the flat 4 design to subaru in 79 ish, so their engines are an improvement on that design. Could be balls though ha ha. |

Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised as by 79 there was the wasserboxer IIRC so Subie just had to improve on this design and have a compact 5 main bearing 4 cylinder engine
