I need four tyres to fit one of these Fiat SPA tractors.
The tyres on there at the moment are shot, and are ‘11.25 x 24’ also has 1200% x 300% - which is a complete mystery to me.
I found on the interweb thingy a reference to how tyre sizes changed post war and the recommend a different size entirely - now, I am really confused
Any help or advice from tyre gurus, or just ordinary clever people greatly appreciated.

I think that the evolution information you've found is a bit of a red herring. That's "common sizes" rather than what will fit on your rims. You still need tyres that will fit on 24" rims, but are relatively narrow and skinny like the originals. An 11.2R24 might do, which is in modern terminology a 285/85R24, but you might need to get a single one in to your local tyre place to trial fit before committing to a full set. I'm not sure what tread patterns are going to be available, but a good starting point is Bigtyres here: https://www.bigtyres.co.uk/tyres.html?rim_size=187&tyre_size=196

I was on their site (the place, not the website) a month or two ago. I believe the owner is a local lad. I got talking to his mate (the fixer), who's worked there since the beginning. A top bloke, but I can't for the life of me remember his name.
280/85 R 24 is the correct metric alternative I think. It might be tough finding something that isn't massively aggressive though, with huge tractor style mud cleats.

I think the only thing that you would have to worry about with the turf tyres is that they’re only 6-ply. They might not have the load rating to take the weight of the tractor, no matter how slow you’re planning on driving.

Ah, good point Glen - yes, it is 3.5 ton, so heavier than most tractors that size.
More to this than immediately meets the eye - glad I 'asked the grown -ups' now
Thanks DAF - that is a good portion of my evening sorted - I love those little 500,s
