Default Duff regulator?

My original type dynamo regulator was making an annoying tick, tick, tick sound now and then. So i have changed it for the new bosch solid one.
However? The new one does not work. I know regulators and dynamos like each other and hate to be parted. I put the old one back on, as it does work, just is noisy. And the old one works fine. Put the new back on , nothing!
But could it be a new duff regulator? Or have i done something wrong?
Is there anyway of testing? When i put a voltmeter on the new one with the engine running, the only volt reading i got was from the battery wire/starter connection, the two dynamo and dash light ones had zero readings.

Thanks!

Found the problem!

For some reason, even though the new regulator seems to have a one piece, metal strip that has two holes to be bolted to the cars body.

Only one side acts an a earth. the side with the starter/battery wire and 61/dash light wire. If you use the other side, it does not work.
