In the process of finishing the chassis repairs on my basket case. I'm trying to do it on a very low budget around family and work commitments. If anyone is interested I'm blogging as I go on www.vwbeetlepickupbuild.com
Looks like a fun build! Just had a read of your blog and the first post about the drama of the collection was comical - I've also had days like that
Thanks for the feedback, will be doing both the blog and this site but wanted more information and pictures posted. Trying to keep it low budget and aiming at the low tech side of beetle building.
Has anyone else experienced a build that was more strip and clean than actual build? I'm still taking apart mine, would very much like to start putting things back together!
Finally managed to put a part back on, if only for a short time. Welded a new throttle pedal mount on so fitted the pedal assembly to get a good position for it but I found my cross mount was a little high so I can't get both bolts into the tunnel wall. Going to adjust (I mean hammer) to get it lower before painting the pan. Already removed the pedals ready but it's a good beginning.
Also started getting the gearbox ready to refit but found one of the m18 bolt holes to be cross threaded so waiting for a new tap to sort it out.
Little shop of horrors but making progress.
This is my passenger heater channel that had a repair panel glued on the top of it and the bottom just fell out. This makes it easier to remove and saves me time with the grinder.
This car has been a long slow build but it's still going strong.
Here's some more pictures of my passenger heater channel replacement hope to finish it by the end of the month. The heater channel, not the car, that's taking FOREVER!!!!!
Front inner wing closing panel going in but the repair panel got flattened in the post so making it fit with some pushing and pinning. Going to cut out the old metal once I've got is all lined up and marked out.
Next job on my long list is the nose. Because I'm on a very tight budget I'm repairing rather than buying complete replacement panels. Will let you know how I get on.
It's definitely not worth the repair time on my passenger door. The lower hinge didn't want to budge when I opened it so the door frame cracked. I'm using it for spare parts and I have another door to replace it. Sometimes replace is better than repair, from time to time.
Bought the replacement bits, time as usual is very limited. So first part has been cut off so just a bit of prep work to do before fitting the new panel.
Lots of shoving and pushing the new panels to line everything up but I'm happy with the results.
Got to sort out the hinges now so it all fits properly going to try gas struts instead of the noisy springs
Gas struts on and works well, took two goes to make it work. Didn’t buy the expensive kit so made my own from a pair of universal ones and some different eye ends that I had knocking around in my odds and sofa box. Incidentally the eye ends are off the engine control cables from a lynx helicopter.
