Chat/Discussion Kind of like a VW club online - you can sit in our virtual pub and talk about whatever you want to. All opinions are valid, but please no insulting (other than to our intelligence,) abusive or libellous posts. Please feel free to post your opinion on any given subject, but also be aware that others have the equal right to disagree with you - and some will certainly tell you so. No 'For Sale' or 'Want To Buy' ads, plugs for your business, links to 'for sale' ads or Ebay links to your (or your mate's) auction (please use the VZi 'Classifieds' section) - this also includes thinly veiled "What's my car worth?" threads too (please use the 'Dude! What's My Car Worth?' forum) - and please don't use just to post links to other VW forums or websites - we are aware that other sites exist (obviously), but blatant 'plugs' (poaching) will simply be deleted.

Dont get me wrong, part of me recognizes folk are fascinated with aircraft..... they are fantastic bits of kit....the little lad in me is always in awe of any type of aircraft/military bit of kit....but the old cynic in me sees the "real" side of things....

i just dont get the hype surrounding a jet that was for me, shite at what it was built to do...... and as usual it was a "political" move to get it through......

i remember years ago, squadron talk, suggested that if the jigs for the Bucc's had not been destroyed/lost then the Tonka would never have made it to production...but they (the government/MOD) predicted it would cost more to scratch build new jigs and then build brand new more modern Bucc's than it was to go ahead with the tonka swing wing pile of crap..... they were wrong..oh so wrong ( when are they never wrong ? )....but, like i say, this was talk on the sqn, we could never get it "officially" confirmed or denied....

Totally agree..I`ve been fortunate to live where I do ...the last flying Vulcan was based at Bruntinthorpe....not that far fromme, so I saw it flying right up until just about its last flight.

A polish Engineer I worked with was awestruck by the Vulcan when he saw it fly over his house in Peterborough a few years back.

He came into to work on Monday..

"Simon, Mate , what was this thing I saw? a flying triangle...the size of an airliner...sounded like a 1000 jumbo jets...is it secret...I`ve never seen anything like it"

Me " Its the Vulcan bomber...it went out of service in the early `90s..was first flown in the 50`s... it was designed to drop to Nuclear bombs on the USSR..including Poland"

Him " Mate, I cannot believe that design is over 60 years old...that thing doing a low pass over the soviets would have been enough ..without even using nukes! Why have they retired it..they should fly that over Afghanistan...that would scare the Taliban to hell....it did me at my barbecue!"

He genuinely couldn`t see why we were not using the design..in his opinion the fear it would create in hostile forces just by flying over them would be worth it alone. He found it a very menacing aircraft, far scarier than fast jets / missiles.
