i;m in the same boat aswell. just send off your CV and a cover letter to different companies, or even better take it to them in person!

i started doing that this year. i did a couple of weeks work for the guy as work experience to show i was reliable and keen - then approached him about doing an apprenticeship. the best thing to do is find a garage you'd be happy working in and a boss you would like working for. then there are colleges and third party companies that run apprenticeships

however - i am now not doing an apprenticeship as the college i went to was crap and full of idiots fucking around - so i now work for the guy full time.

also - avoid carter and carter - i got fucked around royally by them.

the best advice i can give is find an employer you are happy with and a college you are happy with - dont settle for something you dont want

oh and go face to face when seeking employment - it shows you are keen and they are more likely to say no if you just email / ring or send a letter.
