We are moving down this summer. I have secured a job, Laura is hopefully on interview for on in the next week or so. We went down yesterday to secure our house rental in Torrington and now just need to sell ours. The place I'll be working at is a real mix of locals and others, so far I have found everyone to be really friendly.

The impression I get is that if you are moving there to work and be part of the local community then I think you'll be accepted a lot quicker than an outsider buying up a place to rent out as a holiday let.

We are just going to rent until we have worked out where we want to settle although we are 99% certain we would like to buy a place in Braunton.

The biggest problem I found is the rental market and housing market goes mental this time of year. I ignored all the stuff on rightmove and other sites as the estate agents would not do weekend viewings and by the time we could get down the house was gone. I found our place in the North Devon Gazette.

All the best, it is scary as hell doing it (many tears have been shed here) but a plan always comes together.

Adrian, sounds like we are in the same boat, we had a bit of a wobble about a month a go and thought that we should play it safe and stay put but your dead a long time and I am lucky enough to be mortgage free and my work is in the truck dealer as a master tech so able to transfer from dealer to dealer all over the world.2 guys have left to go to australia did think about it but love this old island to much.

You were right about the rental market be quick or loose it and estate agents are the same where ever you go in the country, cant be arsed.

Good luck with your move ,I'm sure we will both be saying in 12mths time its the best thing we ever did.

your all a bunch of lucky gits.
we go on holls each year to st austell, and each year I keep trying to get the wife to move, we both work for the NHS, so we get the job bulletins in work.
but the wife is top of a band 7, so its a few times my wage, so unless she could get about the same, it wouldnt be a good move,
we asked my 6 year old girls if they wanted to go to disney usa next year for my 50th...they said "noooo we want to go to cornwal"
