Just returned home from a 2xnight stay (£18 per night per vehicle [3xpeople]) at Hillend Camp site at Llangennith on the North-West Gower coast.
What an excellent site. Position A, situated at the end of the road/lane through Llangennith village and right next to the beach north of Rhosilli bay just behind the sand dunes.
They have 4 camping fields, 1x designated 'family camping', largely level, mown grass and well drained. (it pissed it down, so it was wet underfoot, but never flooded) and fenced or walled. Security bollards and attendant until midnight was reassuring.
Facilities: Excellent new free shower/amenities blocks for toilets/showers/washing (outside showers for surfers so no shit/sand inside). Wash up areas as well.
Cafe - serving delicious breakfasts and general food until 6pm with panoramic views of the sea/dunes.
Shop for essentials/papers/milk etc.
No booking system, just turn up on the day, minimum 2xnight stay on weekends (Fri/Sat) though.
The short walk through the dunes to the beach was easy where you could have surfing lessons, walk the 3 mile beach or just find a private hollow in the mahoosive dunes for a picnic.
The Gower is a beautiful area and can be explored by car or bike (bit hilly and narrow lanes) and I would recommend the north road as this has less traffic than the south (Rhosilli) road. Beaches are to be found at the end of the peninsular though as the north coast is estuary, so only grazing (the salt marsh lamb is a local delicacy and delicious) and mudflats really. Get to Llangennith and the beach is wide n wild, surfers abound, fly a kite, cycle, swim or just chill out.
Highly recommended - will be back soon
