Also, in your drawing, it looks like the plug will sit on the inside face of the box section? If this is the case, wouldn't the plug length need to be 27.5mm considering the thickness of the metal and 25mm ID?
I work at a machining training centre and although not a turner myself, have all the equipment and trainers/students at hand who could probably do this.
you're right, I was working with 3mm walled box, so the 27mm is correct but the internal measurement should be 24. The outside diameter of the plug depends a lot on the size of the hole but I wasn't sure what size hole would be needed to tap an M8 thread, the size of head isn't critical but I should have included a size.
I think I have someone lined up to do it, but am still favouring a laser cut plate at the moment
