Aircooled Mechanical Tech A Q & A Forum devoted to Aircooled Mechanical Issues. Got a problem? Then ask in here. Please, no 'For Sale' or 'Want To Buy' ads, plugs for your 'business', links to 'for sale' ads or Ebay links to your (or your mate's) auction (use the VZi 'Classifieds' section) - this also includes thinly veiled 'What's My Car Worth?' threads and "Who Can Sell Me A . . ." posts.

Default Frustrated

So..drove my 1200 beetle few weeks ago..nice run..parked it up..2 weeks later..thought i would go for a drive as stopped raining! The car was misfiring and spluttering all down the road..nothing had been touched? I thought maybe electrical, so changed cap, all leads, coil for new ones..plugs look fine and the distributor is only a few months old. Some of the misfiring has gone but it has no power in 3 and 4 gears...almost sounds like not running on all 4? Any ideas?

Glad to hear it's fixed but bear in mind - Good quality points ? (Beru) or maybe bosch German made ?

Distributor ? genuine Bosch or far-eastern ?

Points clamping screw thread OK or stripped ?

Dave.
