Introducing my 71 1200, 'Squash'
Manufactured in 1971, the 1200 bug went to its first owner somewhere near Manchester. The bug enjoyed 8 happy years cruising around town, clocking 55,000 miles until one day in ‘79...crash! The bug then sat in a garage feeling sorry for its self until one day the original owner decided to fix her up for his daughter to use. Some heavy duty panel beating to the N/S front quarter, a tub of filler and some fresh paint was applied to the bottom half of the bug. Unfortunately the bug never made it back on the road and daughter did without it.
Roll forward to 2013 and a lad from Salford hears of a bug for sale. He approaches the family who explained that the bug had been off the road since 1979 and the owner had now passed away. Sold to the lad from Salford.
The lad from Salford was not a big aircooled fan and after sanding down a few rusty spots and taking out the glass he decided to move the project on...enter me!
After having a look around the bug, although the paint wasn't great and it was a little rough around the edges, I was still amazed by its unrestored condition. I decided a re-commission was on the cards, a little lowering and time to enjoy the bug!
Appropriate name due to the 'squashed' n/s quarter...
Drivers pillar needs a bit of work, other wise its looking well
