These arrived in the post today

Porsche 914 rev counter and fuel gauge. Just the speedo left to find! Aside from a couple of marks on the outer ring of the fuel gauge, both are in great condition and most importantly, the glass/Perspex is good and they don't have rusty silver dots! I'm going to sand back the marks on the outer rings and spray them with satin black paint to tidy them up a touch.

In other news, I'm having a complete chassis picked up for me on Friday! More on that soon though

So as I mentioned, I was having a new chassis picked up for the bug today and here is said chassis!

It's a swing axle chassis from a 77' Japanese Beetle and as such is fully prepped for fuel injection as this is what was fitted by VW for Beetles destined for Japan at the time. You may well recognise it from a certain thread on these forums as it's the same chassis that was part of Alex's (al_kaholik) 77' Jap bug! It's spent most of its life in Japan and has pretty much sat still since being over here in the U.K, although I believe Alex used it as a daily for a while(?). As it stands it's believe that it's done significantly less than 50k miles.

Although it looks a little crusty in places, it's all surface rust with no rot and most importantly, is all genuine VW metal, having never been repaired! First port of call is to have it blasted and taken back to bare metal, where any repairs, if needed, will be sorted. It will then be resprayed black. The plan is to fit it up with a 2 inch narrowed beam and dropped spindles to drop the nose and keep the ride smooth, Porsche pattern discs on the front and drums on the rear and new shocks all round.

I'm proper chuffed with it. It's a great little base for the rest of the build and it's nice to be able to breathe fresh life into a genuine chassis again. It now feels like the build is really starting to get going now too! More updates soon hopefully!

Cheers mate!

More parts arrived over the weekend. Not necessarily correct for the year but better looking than the 4 vented lid IMO.

I hope everyone has had a good bank holiday!

Nothing huge to report other than I have continued to slowly collect parts for the bug over the last couple of months. Four wings and a front valance have now joined the list of panels just leaving a late type rear valance to find.

I did however spend my bank holiday Monday making the trip up to Stoke to collect a pair of bumpers. They're nice and straight and should look good after a nice clean and a polish and most importantly have the all important stamp on the bottom of them.

Work start date has been pushed back a bit and is looking more likely to commence July/August time now.
